Last week our Year 5/6s went on an incredible adventure to Mars! Well... Hamilton Secondary College's Space School - the next best thing.
Students became astronauts, commanders, engineers, geologists, physicists and chemists on their simulated Mars mission.
From collecting and identifying rock samples and detecting metals, to monitoring weather conditions, radiation, pressure and temperature, reading coordinates and solving unexpected technical problems, our students had to work together, communicate and think on their feet.
They discovered phosphorus and dolomite, tested rocks for acidity, and learned how rock samples can provide clues about water on Mars. Meanwhile, the team commander was keeping a close eye on the approaching storm and calculating how long the astronauts had to return safely!
Mission accomplished β€” astronauts safely returned to Earth!πŸͺ¨πŸ”¬πŸ›°οΈ

Discovering the secrets beneath our feet!
Our Year 3–4 class travelled to the South Australian Museum to discover more about the fascinating world of rocks and minerals. Students had the opportunity to touch, examine and compare a variety of specimens while learning about their different properties and uses.
Following an engaging, facilitator-led session, students explored the rest of the museum together, discovering an incredible array of fascinating objects, creatures and stories to observe, marvel at, and ponder! πŸ”Ž
