St John SA has been serving South Australians for more than 140 years, and our Museum & Research Centre helps preserve the stories, people and equipment that have shaped that journey.
During a recent visit, CEO A/Prof Steve Morris caught up with Peter Gill and spent time exploring the collection, which includes historic uniforms, medical equipment, photographs, documents and artefacts from across St John’s history.
The Museum & Research Centre is maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers, including Peter, whose work helps ensure these stories are preserved for future generations.
Thank you to Peter and all our St John SA Museum & Research Centre volunteers for the important work you do.

More than 140 volunteers joined us across our Central, Northern, Southern and Prospect hub events, catching up with old friends, meeting new faces, collecting their Volunteer Week gifts and, in some cases, discovering a surprising talent for making fairy floss (we're looking at you Roseanne!).
Across the week, more than 130 spot prizes were handed out, along with door prizes, BandAid game winners and plenty of sausage sizzles, popcorn and conversation.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and to the staff who helped bring the events to life.
While the metro celebrations may be wrapped up, we're not quite finished yet, with Volunteer Week events still to come for our teams in Whyalla, Port Lincoln and Mount Gambier.
Thank you again to all of our volunteers 💛

Volunteer Spotlight: Fernanda Rivera
Fernanda has been volunteering with St John SA for the past two and a half years, progressing from Student Responder to Student Medic while balancing her nursing studies and passion for helping others.
From major events to everyday community coverage, Fernanda says volunteering has helped her build confidence, develop practical skills and connect with other health professionals.
“It’s a great opportunity to learn new things, put skills into practice, make new friends and build a network within healthcare.”
Thank you to Fernanda, and to all of our volunteers supporting communities across South Australia.

A/ Professor Steve Morris joined colleagues from the Women's and Children's Health Network at the 2026 National Reconciliation Week Breakfast in Adelaide.
Hosted by Reconciliation South Australia, the breakfast brings together thousands of South Australians each year to reflect on reconciliation, shared responsibility and the work still ahead. This year’s program featured keynote speaker Eddie Betts, MC Shelley Ware and performances from Casey Donovan and Nathan May.
National Reconciliation Week is an opportunity to listen, learn and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities across South Australia.
Together, we can continue building stronger, safer and more inclusive communities.

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June each year and provides an opportunity for Australians to reflect on shared histories, cultures and achievements, while considering how we can contribute to respectful relationships and stronger communities.
This year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, highlights the connection between past, present and future, and the importance of continuing progress toward reconciliation across Australia.
National Reconciliation Week follows National Sorry Day on 26 May, which recognises the Stolen Generations Survivors and acknowledges the ongoing impacts of forced removal policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
Across South Australia, thousands of people are expected to take part in events and activities marking the week, including Reconciliation SA’s annual breakfast at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Another great night for National Volunteer Week, this time at our Noarlunga hub.
Volunteers came together for food, prizes, games and a chance to catch up with others across the organisation, all part of recognising the people who give their time to support communities across South Australia every day.
Congratulations to Greg Willcocks, who took out the Band-Aid guessing game, and Natasha Burford, who went home with the major door prize.
Three hubs down, one to go!

Last night, the Elizabeth Hub came together to celebrate National Volunteer Week, with members enjoying a chance to catch up away from the usual pace of events and shifts.
Congratulations to Samantha Quick, who took home the door prize, and David O'Brien, who claimed victory in the bandaid game, a sentence that probably deserves more context than we’re willing to provide.
A big thank you to everyone involved in organising the evening, and to all members who came along, caught up, and helped make it such a good night.
