Congrats to McAuley House (Girls) and Walsh House (Boys) on winning the Open Relay events (Br Rochford Trophy and Andrew Penningh Trophy – respectively) that was held on Shalom Day last week. Relay teams listed below. The Shalom staff dominated in the Warrior Games – Staff v Student Relay event!!

Congrats to Shalom student Sade S who represented Wide Bay in the 10-12yrs Girls Rugby League State Titles last week on the Gold Coast. Sade also had the opportunity to captain the team during the carnival. Sade received the ‘Richard Dugdale Medallion’ for Wide Bay’s Players player at the conclusion of the carnival.

2026 Shalom First XIII Boys Dolphins Cup Season Wrap

As the 2026 season comes to an end, we proudly reflect on another memorable and progressive year for our First XIII Boys.

Following a competitive Confraternity Shield campaign, the team achieved Shalom College’s highest-ever finish in the NRL Schoolboys Dolphins Cup, placing third.

Pre-season began in October last year, which now seems like a lifetime ago, with a strong focus on strength and conditioning, skill development and game awareness. Our goal was to help our students become stronger, faster and more resilient athletes while continuing to develop the skills, knowledge and positive habits needed to succeed both on and off the field.

Three tough and competitive trials against TCC, Mountain Creek SHS and Redcliffe SHS provided valuable preparation for the season ahead.

Shalom opened its Dolphins Cup campaign against the two 2025 grand finalists, St Brendan’s College and TCC. The boys led St Brendan’s 14–10 late in the second half before the hosts capitalised on several errors to secure victory.

A disappointing Round 2 performance against TCC left the team searching for its first win.

With the season on the line, the boys responded with a tough and determined 20–10 victory over Emmaus College in Rockhampton.

Following the bye, Shalom hosted Rockhampton Grammar with a semi-final place at stake. In front of family, friends, Old Boys and sponsors, the team produced its most complete performance of the season, recording an impressive 36–16 victory to secure third place.

Unfortunately, the win came at a cost, with co-captains Nathan E and Nick D both ruled out of the semi-final through injury.

Facing minor premiers TCC in Rockhampton, a slow start saw Shalom trail 18–4 at half-time. To the boys’ credit, they responded with courage and determination, reducing the margin to eight points and giving themselves an opportunity to fight their way back into the contest.

TCC ultimately proved too strong, progressing to the grand final against St Brendan’s College.
While the season ended one game short of the grand final, the campaign was extremely encouraging. With a very young core group demonstrating tremendous growth, resilience and maturity throughout the year. The experience gained will be invaluable, with a strong core of players continuing into 2027.

Congrats to Shalom students Gracee M-B and Rhytina F-H who are currently representing Wide Bay at the 13-14yrs Girls State Rugby League Carnival on the Gold Coast. Gracee was named co-captain of the Wide Bay team.

Congrats also to Shalom students Cooper P, Zane M, Fraser W and John H who are representing Wide Bay at the 13-14yrs Boys State Rugby League Carnival at Toowoomba.

yesterday saw the first of three weeks of Respect Round. Banners were up at Touch Football and Table Tennis and will visit the other sport over the next couple of weeks.

SHALOM produced a magnificent team performance to claim the Open and Junior Trophy double at the 2026 Bundaberg and District Secondary School Sports Athletics Carnival at Bundaberg Athletics Club on 3rd & 4th August.

Shalom cliched the Junior Shield for the eighth carnival in a row (carnival not contested in the Covid year of 2020) and the 12th time in the past 13 with a dominant display, racking up a whopping 632.67 points.

Shalom also completed a hat-trick of Senior triumphs and picked up the silverware for the 16th time in the 18-year history of the Shield, but competition was close across the board as we amassed 441 points.

Three Shalom students claimed Age Champions – Kain P (14 years Male), Indica O (14 years Female), and Lyle B (13 years Male), while a further six representatives were Age Champion runners-up – Annika G, who was joint-second in the 18-20y Female Category, Josie P (17y Female), Zarina G (14y Female), Taitum O (13y Female), and Sade S and Indianna K, who were joint-second in 12y Female; and two each wound up third in their divisions – Elise V, who was equal-third in 15y Female, and Atlanta D (13y Female).
Kain P accrued 45.33 points, claiming the 14y Male 100m, 200m, and 400m, also grabbing second in Long Jump, and Fourth in Javelin.

Indica O picked up 53 points, proving too strong in 14y Female 800m, and Triple Jump, as well as placing second in 400m and 1500m, and third in 100m and 200m.

Lyle B secured 41 points, beating all comers in 13y Male 400m, and Triple Jump, being runner-up in 200m, and High Jump, and coming home a close fourth in 100m.

But Josie P was Shalom’s highest points getter with 60, with victories in 17-20y Female High Jump and Triple Jump, second in Long Jump, and third in 400m, 800m, and Discus.

Sade S was in sensational form in the sprints, snaring the 100-200m double, both in record time, shaving .05sec off the previous mark which had been set five years ago in the former, stopping the clock at 13.55sec, and slashing a massive 1.49sec off the old benchmark, set in 2019, in the latter, with her 27.00sec, with Sade also winding up second in Long Jump.

Shalom’s other record breaker was Indianna K, who was a big winner in 12y Female 800m, posting 2:40.42, to lop 0.86sec off team-mate Atlanta D’s time of 12 months ago, with Indianna also giving her 1500m rivals a running lesson and sharing third in High Jump.

Zarina G made the 14y Female Long Jump her own, and added second in Triple Jump, and third in 3000m, and Taitum O led the field home in the 13y Female 200m, and was second best in Long and Triple Jumps.

Elise V secured the 15yr Female 1500m-3000m double, was a brave second in 800m, and just missed a top three when fourth in the 400m, while Atlanta D also showed her distance skills and endurance, powering home in the 13y Female 800m and 1500m, and being No. 2 in 400m.

Georgina Co was also outstanding for Shalom, notching the 17-20y Female 1500m- 3000m, while two other team-mates each managed the 1500m-3000m double, James P (15y Male) and Jayden S (14y Male).

A further nine Shalom team members had one win each - Charli P (15y Female 100m), Oliver S (17-20y Male Triple Jump), Georgia Ca (17yrs Female Shot Put), Alex C (16y Male Javelin), Summer K (14y Female Javelin), Lachlan W (13y Male Javelin), Mason B (15y Male Shot Put), Jai P (14y Male Shot Put), Lilli-Mia H (12y Female Shot Put), Harrison R (12y Male High Jump), and Fraser W (14y Male Long Jump).

Other second placegetters for Shalom included: Kohen C (12y Male 200m), Erin K (16y Female 100m), Jayden S (14y Male 800m), Georgina C (17-20y Female 800m), Starla O’S (13y Female 1500m), Kasey H (16y Female 1500m), Koby I (16y Male 1500m), Indi B (13y Female High Jump), Kallam W (15y Male High Jump & Javelin), Charli P (15y Female Long Jump), Gus P (14y Male Triple Jump), Lilly-Mia H (12y Female Discus), Jay H (13y Male Discus), Sebastian T-D (14y Male Discus), Xander W (17-20y Male Javelin), Eva McL (13y Female Shot Put), Noah F (13y Male Shot Put), and Vashti G (14y Female Shot Put).

Student success – Australian Pool Rescue!!!!

Over the weekend Ethan G and Harper F competed for Elliott Heads at the Australian Pool Rescue Championships in Adeliade. Ethan was also a member of the Queensland Cyclones team that won the interstate challenge. Harper and Ethan both set a number of new PB’s and Ethan was the National Champion in 2 events.
