Year 10 and 11 Automotive students recently attended the MTA Automotive Careers Open Day, where they had the opportunity to explore a wide range of trades and career pathways within the automotive industry.

Students gained hands-on experience across several workshop areas, including paint and panel, electric, heavy and light vehicle automotive trades. The day provided valuable insight into the skills, technology, and opportunities available in the industry.

It was a fantastic experience that helped students discover where a future career in automotive could take them.

In Term 2, our Year 9 students embarked on an exciting new opportunity, participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, fully funded by the school.

Our students have started with the Bronze Award, setting their own goals across Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skills and an Adventurous Journey.

It has been fantastic to see the variety of goals our students have chosen. Cyra and Carly have been working towards their Voluntary Service goal by sorting almost a year’s worth of recycling collected at school, raising an impressive $542.20 in the process!

We can’t wait to see what our students achieve next!

Underdale High School is kickstarting an exciting pilot project, collaboratively designed by our teachers and the team at Fresh FM, to give students a real insight into the world of radio and media.

Over five weeks, students will explore the wide variety of careers and roles that exist within a radio station, from presenting and producing to journalism, sound production, marketing, programming and content creation.

The project will culminate in students producing their own podcast, which will be played at school and shared with our community.

This pilot is also about exploring how we can expand the program in the future and create a subject offering that is accessible to more Underdale students, with opportunities to work towards SACE credits across areas such as Community Studies, Media Studies, English and Workplace Practices.

It is a great opportunity for our students to develop communication, collaboration, creativity and real-world skills while discovering pathways they may not have previously considered.

Last Tuesday the Year 9 Digital Technology class visited Lot 14 as part of a Careers in Technology event.

Students were inspired by professionals who shared their surprising career journeys, showing that success is often found on unexpected paths. A highlight was the dancing robot, sparking fascination with its intricate movements and the coding behind the scenes—opening eyes to careers in robotics and technology. Live demonstrations of global cyber threat tracking and behind-the-scenes tours of high-tech computer facilities left a lasting impression, showcasing the excitement and importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world.
