Year 6 students took part in On Country Learning Week, exploring Aboriginal culture, history and connection to Country through a rich program of cultural, creative and hands-on experiences.

The week included a Yarning Circle guided by Uncle Matt Priestly from Desert Pea Media, Didgeridoo and dance workshops with Walangari Karntawarra and Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo, art sessions with Aunty B, a Koori Kinnections experience at Centennial Park and a Tribal Warrior cultural experience on Clark Island.

Students also took part in Indigenous Games at Wentworth Park before sharing their learning and creative work with the community at Grand-friends Day.

Through authentic voices and meaningful experiences, students developed a deeper understanding of Country, culture, history and community. 🌏

Today, we celebrate the wonderful educators who nurture curiosity, encourage discovery and create meaningful learning experiences for our youngest learners.

Thank you for the care, creativity and dedication you bring to the IGS Early Learning community every day. The foundations you help build today will stay with our children as they grow, learn and flourish. Thank you for everything you do!

Our Year 10 leaders spent Friday at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas – four hours of testing opinions taking on philosophers from The Ethics Centre and tackling big questions about AI and the future. They practised the art of building on an argument and came away with sharper thinking and a few changed minds.

Science Week at IGS brought children from Early Learning, and students in Kindergarten to Year 3, Years 8, 10 and 11 together to explore how scientific ideas develop over time and how curiosity, questioning and investigation can lead to new discoveries and future innovations. πŸ”¬βœ¨

From seed investigations in the ELC to exciting Street Science demonstrations for Kindergarten to Year 3 and Year 8, students discovered how simple questions can grow into powerful discoveries. Our Year 10 and 11 Science students also stepped into the role of scientists and mentors, leading experiments with our youngest learners.

Thank you to Liz Turner Head of Science, Michelle Sullivan Head of Inclusive Learning and all the staff and students who helped make Science Week such a great celebration of science at IGS.

For more than a decade, Wear It Purple Day has been a tradition at IGS. This year's theme Colours of Courage celebrates the everyday courage of LGBTQIA+SB young people and the allies who stand beside them.

Chalk on the pavement, purple pencils and bracelets from the P&C, and a moving performance from Year 12 student Issy M, capped off with a P&C barbeque – a joyful reminder that at IGS, Unity Through Diversity is lived each and every day.

Thank you to the P&C.

Book Week was in full swing across the School this week! From costumes to character parades, a book swap and stories from Broccoli (Mr Linton) and Ms Pebbles (Ms Light) – it was a celebration of everything we love about reading. This year's theme Symphony of Stories reminded us that every book adds its own note to the orchestra of our School.
