📚✨ National Simultaneous Storytime was a hopping success at Ultimo Public School

We joined millions across Australia to read Luna Roo and celebrated the joy of reading and teamwork.

After the story, we completed fun activities with our buddy classes, bringing Luna’s adventure to life and strengthening connections across our school.

Today is National Sorry Day, a time to remember and honour the Stolen Generations and their families, and to reflect on our journey towards understanding, healing, and reconciliation.

On Tuesday, 26th May, Ultimo Public School held a whole school assembly led by our student leaders. SRC members presented hands created by all students into our ceremonial pot, symbolizing unity and respect while our junior and senior choir led the school in singing the Midnight Oil song Beds are Burning.

The Gadigal people of the Eora Nation have shared their history and culture through storytelling for thousands of years, a tradition we are proud to continue in our school assemblies. By listening to these stories, we honour Indigenous culture, promote healing, and strengthen our community.

This year at Ultimo Public School, we are thrilled to welcome a record number of stage 3 students to our Debating Club. With 7 teams competing in our in-school Ultimo Debating Competition and 2 teams representing us in the Premier’s Debating Challenge against local public schools, our debaters have been busy honing their skills.

This week marked Round 2 of the Premier’s Debating Challenge, where the Spectacular 6ers secured an impressive win against our opponents, Bourke St Public School. Congratulations to Leilani, Lola, Destiny, and Touma for leading their team to their second victory in the PDC.

In addition to this, our debaters have been passionately debating the topic ‘that kids should be allowed to use their devices during school breaks’. Shoutout to The Masterminds,
The Furry Bobs, and The Frogs for your convincing arguments and devastating rebuttals, enabling you to win your debates this week.

Well done to all our debaters for their enthusiasm and outstanding efforts.

We are proud to announce that Annabelle, a talented UPS student and participant in the Sydney Visual Arts Academy, has been selected as a finalist in the 2026 Young Archie competition!

This year, out of over 4,350 incredible entries, only 70 finalists and 20 honourable mentions were chosen across four age categories – and Annabelle is among them!

Join us in celebrating her amazing achievement and wishing her the best of luck! 🌟🖌️

“This is a self-portrait of me, Annabelle, during my time in Japan. I am wearing a beautiful detailed red kimono because red and yellow are my favourite colours. I felt very pretty wearing it, and I wanted my artwork to show how happy and bright I felt in that moment.”

What an incredible evening , filled with joy, creativity, and community spirit as we marked 150 years of Ultimo Public School! Ultimo Public School was alive with stunning artworks created by our talented students, showcasing their amazing creativity and dedication. The student performances were nothing short of spectacular, bringing smiles and applause from everyone in attendance.

A heartfelt thank you to all the students and families who joined us to celebrate this remarkable milestone. Your enthusiasm and support made the evening truly unforgettable.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff for their passion and commitment in organising such a memorable celebration, and a big thank you to the P&C for providing a delicious BBQ that everyone enjoyed.

Together, we honoured our rich history with the fascinating historical museum display, reminding us all of the wonderful journey Ultimo Public has been on over the past century and a half.

🌍🗺️ In Geography, Wickham IPH explored the continents and oceans of the world! Students enjoyed learning about the seven continents and five oceans through hands-on activities, songs, discussions and map work. We loved discovering how big and diverse our world is! 🌏💙

🌟 Kindergarten Learning 🌟

After just 3 weeks, our wonderful Kindergarten students have embraced life at UPS and dived deep into learning!

They have been busy exploring phonics, learning about families, weather and discovering rhymes. They’ve been expressing their creativity in art, staying active in PE , and exploring new worlds in the library and Chinese language lessons – what an amazing start!

We’re so proud of how quickly our little learners are growing and blossoming at UPS! Here’s to many more weeks of fun and discovery!
