This is me today, day 1 of my cycle and my mind and body was begging me to rest. I could have pushed through or berated myself for being “lazy”, but I know this rest will serve me much better than pushing through.

So here’s a reminder to give yourself permission to do this too.

At so many of my Empowering First Periods workshops I've been asked "When are you doing one on perimenopause?"

The answer is NOW!

Not only have I been researching, I've been doing the work myself over the past few years. Even though I know I have a few years until I reach menopause, I take every "bump" that comes with perimenopause as a message to adjust my lifestyle, heal past wounds, and work on myself so once I do get through this phase, I will have done all the work to make the most of the freedom that I hear comes with menopause.

I want the same for you! From all of my research and own work I've had to learn a lot AND unlearn a lot, and every day I hear women having a hard time of a phase of life that is not spoken about enough.

So I'm excited to introduce you to an empowering opportunity designed exclusively for women in their 40s. It's time to embrace and celebrate the transformative phase of peri-menopause!

Join Us on This Journey

If you're ready to embark on a journey through peri-menopause into menopause with confidence, knowledge, and the unwavering support of women who understand your path, then this workshop is for you

It is very normal to feel a sense of loss and mourning with any big life changes we have.

Think about your own life experiences when you've felt that sense of loss and grief. Moving into motherhood is often a time women feel that sense of loss from their carefree childless selves, as do many women as they cross into menopause - grieving their more youthful selves.

Many of our girls will have that same sense of loss with their first periods. This could come at different times:

🌺 The first time they really learn about periods and what their bodies do
🌺 When they get their first period
🌺 A few months into their periods and navigating all that it brings.

The sense of loss, grief and mourning can show up in a number of different ways, so it's important to know what to look out for in order to support your daughter through it.

Here are some signs that your daughter is grieving her life before her period.

We can support our daughters by allowing her to feel exactly what she is feeling. She is going through the natural process of loss and that is okay. Allow her that space to feel loss, to grieve and to mourn, while also showing her the wonderful side of the phase she is now stepping in to. It's also okay to feel this loss at the same time she feels joy and excitement for her new phase of life.

This process may take some time or may be over quickly, and it will be an important part of her own transition. How you guide her through this will also play a part in how she sees herself as a woman. By modelling to her the wonderful parts of being a woman, continuing to hold space for her and normalising conversations, without pushing, she will come through feeling supported.

Did you experience this?

I have a confession to make.

I've been hiding.

Hiding behind the "safe", "normal" and the "easy" options. Even though talking openly about periods hasn't been the norm for many of us, it's safer and easier than to talk about the other side of puberty, the menstrual cycle and menopause. That being the spiritual side, the true feminine side, the powerful side. The side that sees us acknowledging the power of our cycle and our womb space, the connection we have to the Divine.

Hormones are "safe" to talk about, connecting to our womb space gets judgement. This work can be seen as "pseudoscience" or "woo-woo", so I've kept my message "safe", while always having the undertone of spirituality sitting just beneath the surface. I have my own stories around being judged, ooph, do I have some stories, and part of my healing and unpeeling of those stories is to not hide anymore.

Seeing the rite of passage of our first period, motherhood and menopause as a spiritual journey, one of holistic personal growth, is judged as "woowoo", and instead these important phases of our lives have been limited to a series of "symptoms" and physiological changes.

Acknowledging the spiritual side of these rites of passage is how we help our young girls through their womanhood and help heal ourselves.

When I talk about the spiritual side, I refer to the ability to connect to our bodies and to our womb space and to listen to each message. It involves the awareness of our cycles and the impact it has on our physical and emotional wellbeing and to understand that creation comes through us. Spirituality includes supporting and holding space for one another, protecting, nurturing, showing unconditional love and giving wise counsel and encouragement to one another and especially to the young women we are raising.

I acknowledge that this healing I am going through is a part of my spiritual peri-menopause journey, where everything that needs healing comes up to be healed. As painful as it can be at times, I see it as a gift.

If you feel similar things coming through, Like you kind of don't know who the f@ck you are, know this is all a part of the spiritual side of perimenopause.
