The Tuncurry team at Atwea would like to provide you with one final update.
By now, many of you will have heard that Atwea College will be closing its Registered Training Organisation (RTO) on 30 June 2026. This change only affects the adult education and training services side of the business. Alesco Secondary College will continue to operate as normal.
The decision to close training services was made by the Atwea Board of Directors on 25 May 2026. As a result, training services across all locations, including Raymond Terrace, Tuncurry, Cessnock, Hunter region, and Hunter Street, will cease operations. This decision has impacted more than 36 staff members and trainers across the organisation.
For any future First Aid training requirements, Simone will continue to deliver training through Royal Life Saving Australia. If your organisation requires First Aid courses or workplace training, they can be contacted on (02) 4929 5600 and ask for Simone Waters.
As we head into our own uncertain futures, we find ourselves reflecting on the reason we loved our jobs so much—the students. Being able to support people, help them build confidence, gain skills, and create opportunities for a better future has been both a privilege and a reward. Knowing that we have made a positive difference in the lives of our students is something we will always be proud of.
As many of our team members now begin the search for new opportunities, we would be grateful if you could keep us in mind. If you become aware of any employment opportunities that may suit our staff and trainers, we would sincerely appreciate any information, referrals, or introductions you may be able to provide.
Sharon, Tracy, and Troy would like to sincerely thank you for your ongoing support, collaboration, and student referrals over the years. Your partnership has played an important role in helping us support learners within our community, and we are grateful for the opportunities we have shared.

A massive Thankyou to the Bellevue Hotel for their ongoing support and allowing us to hire out the venue to host RSA & RCG.

🚑 First Aid Training Making a Difference at Atwea College Tuncurry Campus 🚑

As we enter our final Month of training in Tuncurry we reflect on our achievements in 2026

Since January 2026, an incredible 171 students have successfully completed First Aid training at our Tuncurry campus, equipping themselves with the skills and confidence to respond in emergencies and potentially save lives.

We are also proud to celebrate a Further 68 Students who completed their CPR Refresher training, ensuring their life-saving knowledge remains current and ready when it matters most.

We have fostered strong relationships with Local businesses and Community Organizations to provide personalized training

A huge congratulations and thank you to our outstanding trainers Simone, Michael, and Meghan. Their passion, expertise, and dedication are helping educate local people, strengthen our community, and empower individuals to make a real difference when every second counts.

Over the last 3 weeks we have gone through
-how to use smart phones
-how to use tablets and iPads
-cybersecurity
-how to use the internet
-seniors cards
-online shopping etc

Dear Students and Stakeholders

Following the email sent out this week regarding the closure of Atwea College’s Training Services division, we wanted to reach out directly to reassure you that our team is here to support you throughout this transition.

We understand this news may feel unexpected and uncertain, and we recognise that many students may have questions or concerns about what this means for their studies. Please know that supporting you to continue and complete your training remains our priority.

At this stage:

-Classes will continue as scheduled unless you are contacted directly with any changes.
-Our team will continue working with you on your studies and assessments.
-We are committed to helping you complete as much of your course as possible before 30 June 2026.
-We are also working closely with the college and external training providers regarding transition options and pathways for students.

For students who may need extra assistance, we are available to provide additional support online, including:

Assistance with understanding and completing assessments
Help with study planning and managing remaining course work
Support via phone, email or online meetings where needed
Guidance around transition arrangements as further information becomes available

If you feel behind with your studies or would benefit from extra support, please reach out. We encourage you to contact us as early as possible so we can work with you and provide the support you need.

We understand this may be a challenging time, and we genuinely appreciate your patience and understanding while plans are being finalised. You have worked hard toward your qualification, and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way.

Atwea College will be phasing out our Training Services division by 30 June 2026.

This is a significant change, and we recognise the impact it has on the people who have poured their hearts into supporting our students. Your dedication, expertise, and care have made a real difference in countless lives.

This is not a reflection on your work. The quality of your delivery, the commitment you've shown, and the outcomes you've achieved are genuinely valued.

This decision is about where Atwea can focus our energy and resources as we return to our roots: supporting young people through Alesco Secondary College and delivering accessible community learning.

To our current Training Services students: Your journey matters deeply to us. You will be fully supported to complete your qualifications alongside trusted, quality partners.

To our Training Services staff: Your contribution to Atwea's story will always be recognised. Atwea's Training Services has supported hundreds of students to gain qualifications, build skills, and transition into meaningful employment. A broad trough over northern and eastern NSW is expected to generate widespread moderate rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days. A low within the trough is expected to result in heavy rainfall for parts of the Hunter and southern parts of the Mid North Coast from late Thursday.

Minor flooding may develop from overnight Thursday into Friday along the Paterson and Williams Rivers. Minor flooding is possible along the Manning and Gloucester, Goulburn and Hunter Rivers and Wollombi Brook from Friday. Uncertainty remains in the location of the heaviest falls, and the Flood Watch area will be revised over the coming days.

Catchments in the flood watch area are moderately wet.

Catchments likely to be affected include:
