Cubs Corner held a professional development session as an extension of Early Learning Matters Week, in collaboration with Preschool Practice Coach Yasmin.
The session focused on the Conscious Discipline Brain State Model and Educator Rules of Engagement.
Educators explored how children's brain states can influence their emotions, behaviours, responses, and ability to engage in learning.
The session provided valuable discussions around how educators can respond to children who display challenging or complex behaviours. We explored the importance of understanding the underlying needs behind children's behaviours and responding with calmness, connection, empathy, and consistency rather than reacting to the behaviour itself.
Educators were also introduced to practical strategies that can be used to support children in regulating their emotions, building positive relationships, and developing appropriate ways to communicate their needs. The discussion encouraged educators to reflect on their own responses and consider how our interactions can help children feel safe, supported, and understood.
The professional development was a valuable opportunity for the team to strengthen our understanding of Conscious Discipline, reflect on our current practices, and build practical strategies to support children's emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
