Spicy Brain Productions

Spicy Brain Productions We believe theatre should provoke thought, confront mortality, spark laughter, and remind audiences why being alive is complicated, ridiculous, and beautiful.

If it makes your brain tingle, we’re probably interested.

CHOOKAS for tonight’s opening Hand to God at Red Tree Theatre!
It’s dark, it’s hilarious and we have only heard good things of this show!
We Spicy Brains are looking forward to seeing this!

A big thank you to Jopuka Productions for inviting Spicy Brain’s Brendan Abela and James Beggs to your first Let’s Read….
Such a fun play that certainly provoked a lot of discussion, with James and myself continuing that conversation much later into the night.
And that’s exactly why I love reading a play with a bunch of people. Everyone is going to be affected by the material in different ways and hearing all those perspectives can give you even more insight and appreciation of the piece.
And let’s face it. I’m not likely to get the chance to play a sixteen year old girl on an American School Soccer Team (which was a hoot 😂) any other time.
Look forward to participating again in the future and hope the community continues to grow 🎭🙂

Happy New Year Frens!

Here's to more play readings (and snacks), more love, more connection, more craziness, more creativity and more weird and wonderful moments together!

We shall be seeing you all soon!

Spicy Brain #3 = Stephanie (Steph) Burton

Steph has been around the Central Coast theatre community for what feels like....forever.

Most recently been in Red Tree Theatres Production of "Calendar Girls" as Marie, several voices in "War of the Worlds" and Miss Maudie in "to Kill a Mockingbird" with Wyong Drama Group.

She is looking forward to making creative space on the coast that is different and a little bit odd...and a bit fresh. Real life stories and all life challenges.

With a lifetime in theatre and screen, James has appeared in productions including Wayside Bride, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, None of Woman Born, and Young Frankenstein. Screen credits include the international award-winning short film Mimic.
When not performing, James runs a theatre and dance photography business, capturing performers at their most vulnerable and occasionally mid-blink.

After years behind the lens, James has decided it is time to return to the stage and reinsert themselves, carefully, and likely against medical advice, into more Central Coast productions.

Annnd introducing....Brendan "Brendo" Abela

After years of playing in bands on the live music scene, Brendo in recent years has become a regular in Central Coast theatre and has appeared in various productions with Red Tree Theatre, Wyong Musical Theatre Company and Wyong Drama Group including The War of The Worlds (as Orson Welles), Billy Elliot (as a drunk adulterer), Wayside Bride (as almost all the characters), Appointment With Death (as a potentially offensive stereotype), The Boy from Oz (as a drunk abusive husband), Letters to Lindy (as amongst other roles a 9 year old child) and Rock of Ages (as himself).

Earlier this year Brendo had the incredible opportunity to sit in the director’s chair for the first time directing Song Contest: Almost Eurovision at The Art House (also briefly appearing as two potentially offensive stereotypes) and most recently founded Play Club which runs out of Red Tree theatre every fortnight and is a play reading collective that welcomes both experienced actors as well as people with little to no theatre experience and invites them to listen in on or participate in a fun, low pressure and interactive play reading.

The success of Play Club and seeing that community grow and be engaged and having the best time playing pretend as well as getting to discover some amazing scripts which prompt discussions, debates, theories and all the range of human emotion definitely sowed the seeds for the creation of Spicy Brain Productions and Brendo's hope is that they can support and champion content that is thought provoking, challenging, a little bit cheeky but still highly entertaining.

Brendo also writes and releases original music with his bands Data Sucker and Audio From Mars, please like and subscribe!!!
