✨ Celebrating Diwali at Goodstart Tuggerah 🪔

Our Diwali celebrations started early at Goodstart Tuggerah following Amar’s return from overseas! What a beautiful opportunity to welcome Amar back while celebrating and sharing in her culture with our learning community. ❤️

Although the rain made an appearance, it certainly didn’t dampen our celebrations of light! ✨ Our educators continued our ongoing tradition of lighting sparklers, creating a special moment of connection, joy and togetherness.

We then came together to explore what culture means to each of us, sharing the similarities and differences in our traditions, celebrations and experiences. These conversations help foster curiosity, respect and a deeper appreciation of the diverse cultures that make our community so special.

It was also wonderful to see one of our families feeling comfortable to drop in and join the explorations as part of our Open Door Month These moments remind us of the importance of creating a welcoming environment where families feel a genuine sense of belonging and are valued as an integral part of our learning community. 🌏💛

At Goodstart Tuggerah, we believe that sharing our cultures, traditions and stories strengthens our connections and helps every child, family and educator feel seen, heard and valued.

Goodstart Tuggerah Family Walk for Mental Health Event

A little connection goes a long way

We would love to invite our children, families, educators past, present, future and extended members of our Goodstart Tuggerah community to join us for a morning of walking, connection and community as we come together to support mental health and wellbeing.

Date: Saturday, 24 October 2026
Time: 9:30am
Location: The Haven, Terrigal – meet at the picnic benches

What to expect

We will walk together from The Haven into Terrigal and back, enjoying some fresh air, movement and, most importantly, time to connect with one another.

Children are welcome to bring their bikes, scooters and balls to enjoy along the way.

Following our walk, we encourage families to bring along a picnic blanket and some morning tea to share as we continue to connect, chat and enjoy time together as a community.

You can walk, talk, laugh, play or simply enjoy being together& connection every little moment of connection can make a difference.

We look forward to seeing our Goodstart Tuggerah community come together for a morning of connection, belonging and wellbeing.

💛🌿 Sharing our story at the ECA Conference 🌿💛

What a wonderful few days it has been, with some of our Leadership Team attending the Early Childhood Australia (ECA) Conference connecting with others, sharing ideas and celebrating the incredible work happening across our sector.

We are incredibly proud of our Leadership Team for presenting “Excursion to Engagement” and sharing a little piece of our story.

Our presentation explored how, as a service, we have built strong, meaningful and ongoing partnerships within our community, and how these relationships have become such an important ongoing part of our children’s everyday learning, play and experiences.

For us, it’s about so much more than simply going on an excursion. It’s about building partnerships creating connections and opening the world around us to our children. 🌏💫

We are so grateful for the wonderful community members and organisations who have welcomed us, shared their knowledge, time and experiences with our children, and become part of our learning journey. These connections enrich our curriculum, strengthen our sense of belonging and create memories and learning experiences that stay with children long after the day is over. 💛

A huge congratulations to our Leadership Team for representing our service, sharing our story and proudly showcasing the meaningful work we do every day.

A huge shout out to our incredible kitchen team! 👏❤️

We recently had our yearly unannounced Food Authority inspection and are so proud to have once again received a 5-Star Excellence Rating! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Our kitchen is truly the backbone of our service, working hard every day to prepare nutritious, delicious and allergen-safe meals for our children. Their commitment to high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness and safe food handling ensures our children can enjoy every meal with confidence.

We are incredibly grateful for the care, dedication and attention to detail our kitchen team puts into everything they do. This fantastic result is a reflection of their ongoing commitment to keeping our children safe, healthy and well-fed.🥰🍎👩‍🍳

This week we celebrate and congratulate our wonderful Lora as she reaches an incredible 20 years of service with us at Goodstart Tuggerah!🎉💛

Lora’s passion for inclusion and her incredibly big heart have made a lasting impact on so many children and families over the years. We are so grateful for everything Lora brings to our service, the care she shows to others, and all that she continues to do to create a truly inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.

We are beyond grateful to Ebony Branigan Art for working in partnership with our service to share her incredible art, knowledge and culture through our foyer documentation boards. ❤️
Every board tells a story. It is a daily reminder that our learning environment is shaped by the people, families and community who share it with us.
We have been so fortunate to have many Aboriginal families generously leave a piece of their story, culture and artwork within our service. These contributions have helped create a beautiful sense of belonging and a strong connection to culture throughout our environment.
Our walls are more than decoration they hold stories, perspectives, connections and memories. They remind us of the importance of listening, learning and creating spaces where every child and family can see their culture, identity and community reflected.
Thank you, Ebony, and to all of the families who have shared a piece of their story with us. We are so grateful to be able to learn, grow and celebrate culture together. 🖤💛❤️

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

✨ Watch this space… ✨
Something incredibly beautiful and meaningful is being added to our foyer space. Today, we were so fortunate to welcome a proud Wiradjuri artist and valued member of our service community to begin creating a very special piece for our foyer.
The children watched on with such wonder and curiosity, with some even having the opportunity to add their own prints alongside the artwork.
We strive to create a foyer that feels warm, welcoming and reflective of the stories, culture and connections that are important to our service community. Through these displays, we hope to honour and share the stories of talented Indigenous artists, both past and present.
Each board will hold its own story and meaningful message that represents what is important to our children, families and educators.
We cannot wait to share each completed piece and the stories behind them with you all 🌿
