🌞 A wonderful afternoon with the Maroubra community! 🌊

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of joining the Maroubra community for a very special fundraising afternoon, kindly hosted in support of Maroubra Neighbourhood Children’s Centre.

The fundraiser was held at the beautiful South Maroubra Surf Club — what an amazing location! 🌊☀️ The afternoon was filled with silent auctions, music, dancing, community conversations and plenty of opportunities to connect.

It was wonderful to spend a sunny afternoon surrounded by such fantastic people, with an incredible view and such a strong sense of community.

It was especially lovely to see Mel, the Director, and her dedicated team enjoying the afternoon alongside the committee, families and children. ❤️

Thank you so much for the invitation. It was a real pleasure to be part of such a wonderful community event and to celebrate the amazing work of the centre. 🌟

I’ve been exploring the power of play-based literacy and numeracy in early childhood education, and it's a great reminder that children learn best through meaningful, engaging experiences.

From storytelling and songs to building, counting, sorting, and imaginative play, every interaction is an opportunity to develop essential literacy and numeracy skills while fostering curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning.

By creating rich play environments, educators can support children's communication, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking in ways that are both enjoyable and purposeful.

?? More reforms to come ??

Child safety in education and care is a shared national priority, reflecting our commitment to safeguarding children and prioritising their safety above all else.

On 15 July 2026, Education Ministers agreed on critical reforms to further strengthen child safety in early childhood education and care (ECEC).

These reforms follow extensive consultation with families and the broader ECEC sector and include:
✅ strengthening supervision practices
✅ increasing transparency for families
✅ improving whistleblower protections
✅ ensuring Persons with Management and Control remain fit and proper
✅safer fencing and more.

Legislative amendments will be prioritised in 2027.
