Heart In Mind Coaching "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all' - Aristotle

I have many years experience working with young people from 4 to 18 years of age, and even adults. I concentrate on tutoring or mentoring on a one-to-one basis as I like to build up a rapport with my students. That way I can confidently face their learning difficulties in a supportive and positive environment. I have worked in many areas of employment including scientific research, pathology, resi

dential care, retail and education. Therefore I can relate my teaching to the requirements of the workplace and industry. I use my training and experience in mindfulness, and my daily meditation practise to bring calm, relieve anxiety, add perspective and focus to goal setting and achievable targets.

We all have hard days. But we don't have to make them harder.

We wish there were a magic cure or fix for those sticky, uncomfortable, why-is-everything-going-wrong days, but sadly, there isn't. Sigh And trying to force yourself to “snap out of it” or turn the day around doesn't usually do anything but add more fuel to the bad-mood fire. So next time you feel like trash, try to:

💙 Acknowledge where you're actually at, no sugar-coating allowed
💙 REST: make space in your day for a break, nap, or an early bedtime
💙 Share your feelings with someone you trust — it can lighten the load

Keep this in mind

➡️ Remember: Some days just suck, but no day lasts forever.
➡️ Reflect: What do you need most today? A hug, a vent, or silly cat videos could be a good place to start.
➡️ Reframe: “I'm stuck in muck.” → “I will take one small action to care for myself today. That's enough.”

Empathy or Conpassion?

Empathy is the ability to sense and share another person's feelings from their point of view. Compassion takes that emotional connection a step further by adding a strong desire and drive to help ease their pain.

Cultivating compassion starts with your relationship with yourself and expands outward to change how you interact with the world. Moving from empathy (feeling pain) to compassion (acting to ease pain) provides the energy needed to create sustainable, positive global change.

To cultivate compassion and heal the world, start with yourself and expand outward. Compassion protects you from burnout while generating actionable good.

Cultivate Personal Compassion:
❤️Practice self-compassion: Treat your own mistakes with kindness.
🩷Pause before reacting: Realize that difficult people are often struggling.
🧡Listen actively: Focus on understanding others rather than judging them.
💛Meditate on kindness: Wish safety and peace to all people.
💚Find common ground: Focus on shared human needs, not differences.

Actions to Heal the World:
💙Perform random kindness: Small daily gestures reduce collective stress.
🩵Live sustainably: Reduce plastic, food waste, and carbon footprints.
💜Volunteer locally: Give time to food banks or shelters.
🤎Oppose injustice: Speak up against cruelty and discrimination.
🖤Spend ethically: Support businesses that protect workers and earth.

The pressure to be perfect is exhausting. Put it down!
________________________
The quest to become some perfect version of you is stressful and ultimately, impossible. Because there's not one "right" way to be yourself. Just the version who's here right now… sharp edges, messy moments, and all.

This week, instead of trying to reach some unachievable goal of perfection, try to be a little more you.

Here are three reminders to help you be okay if you’re feeling like a beautiful mess:

💙 Quirks and "flaws" are what make you interesting
💙 Your failures are often your biggest and best lessons
💙 Revealing your imperfections makes you more likeable (seriously)

What habitual reactions do you get caught in when you feel triggered?

When we experience psychological triggers, we typically get caught in automated survival loops governed by the nervous system.
The four most common habitual reaction patterns include:

🥊 Fight Reactions
Defensiveness: Counter-attacking or over-explaining to deflect perceived criticism.
Aggression: Expressing sudden, disproportionate anger or raising the voice.
Blaming: Shifting the responsibility of the internal discomfort onto someone else.

🏃 Flight Reactions
Avoidance: Physical escaping or mentally checking out from a stressful situation.
Hyper-Productivity: Channeling panic into obsessive cleaning, working, or organizing.
Rumination: Getting trapped in repetitive, negative thought loops to "solve" the threat.

🥶 Freeze Reactions
Dissociation: Feeling numb, spaced out, or completely disconnected from the body.
Choice Paralysis: Becoming entirely overwhelmed and unable to make basic decisions.
Shutting Down: Going silent and completely withdrawing from communication.

🐑 Fawn Reactions
People-Pleasing: Over-accommodating others to keep the peace and guarantee safety.
Boundary Dissolution: Saying yes to obligations when wanting to say no.
Masking: Exhausting energy to constantly appear "fine" to avoid conflict.

Not being okay is totally okay, okay?
________________________
Equanimity is the mind’s ability to be okay with what’s happening — good, bad, or ugly. It’s a sort of superpower that everyone can pick up with a little practice.

Here are three quick ways to help you go with the flow when you're not feeling okay:

💙 Take three long, slow breaths, extending your exhale a bit longer than your inhale.
💙 Anchor your body in the present by focusing on your feet on the ground or your seat on the chair.
💙 Repeat the phrase: “For now, it’s like this.”

Be the person who encourages others, who chooses to see the good in the world abd speak it out loud.
Be frequent in your praise and thoughtful in your criticism.

Just because something feels difficult today, doesn't mean it isn't going to make life easier tomorrow.
