An appreciation post for all the grandparents who bring little ones along to classes at The Music Nook, in honour of my own.

My beautiful Grandma, who we called Nanay. Today is her birthday - she would have been 102 today.

It makes me so happy seeing so many grandparents coming along to sing and dance with their grandkids, because I can still picture her doing the same with me and my sister. 🌻🏵

Have loved singing Eastern Rosellas (Joel Phillips) this term as part of Sing at the Nook. We were a small group today but this little one was happy to have her chance up at the piano with her own "sheet music" - some board books. She even treated us to her own version of the song later on, as well as adding Baa Baa Black Sheep to our sing of Better Be Home Soon 🐑 - I love a good mash-up idea!

In case you don't know, Sing at the Nook is our singing group that catches up on Fridays at 11:15.

Find your voice, find your village.
A place for mums, parents and caregivers to sing, connect, and breathe. Whether you’re a mum-to-be, soothing a newborn, navigating the teenage years or anywhere in between and beyond, you’re invited to come along to sing for you.

No prior singing experience? No worries! All voices and comfort levels are welcome.

Join us to:

Sing songs that uplift and resonate.

Connect with other mums in a supportive and fun environment.

Take a well-deserved break and indulge in the power of making music together.

Although this group is all about nurturing you, this is still a (6w+) child-friendly zone (and what a beautiful thing for them to witness!). There will be some toys and activities provided for your children or BYO, but you are also more than welcome to attend if you are child-free.

Head to the website or get in touch to find out more, or just come along to give it a try! Casual passes available.

What do you see? Pitch edition.

You see a child having so much fun that he can't help moving to the music.

I see distinctions being made between high and low pitch.

I see awareness of melodic contour, paving the way for future musical literacy.

I see connections being made in real time, between aural input and a kinaesthetic outcome.

I see the results of long-term music-making from infancy. This little one has been in classes since he was 9 or 10 weeks old, and his movements were completely unprompted during the class.

It's never too early for music in your life. 🎶

Who are we?

Stella and Simone are your teachers for All In, Baby's First Duet and Junior Jams classes.

We have both played music since childhood, found music communities through school, and went on to study music at Uni (Simone on clarinet and Stella on piano). You will hear us playing multiple instruments during class because we value providing LIVE music experiences for your children.

We both went on to do teaching degrees, and have gained our experience teaching in a variety of schools.

We are both mums, so we get it.

We both love using music to tell stories.

We are the faces you and your little ones will get to know in classes each week at The Music Nook. 🎶

There is still availability for the rest of term 3!
Monday 10.15 Junior Jams
Tuesday 11.15 Baby's First Duet
Thursday 9.15 All In
Thursday 10.15 Baby's First Duet

Get in touch to learn more or organise a trial class.

Music is the PERFECT activity for the whole family, and our All In class is designed for kids from 0-5 to be able to join in, in their own way, at their own pace. 🎶

Did you know that you can enrol multiple siblings in the same class, at a discounted rate? Get in touch if you want to know more, organise a trial, or head to the website to lock in your spot for the term!

There is currently availability in the 9.15 Thursday All In class - we'd love for you to join us and become part of our community.

My reason why.

Today was one of my best days so far, since officially opening The Music Nook a year and a half ago.

I had been longing for someone to start baby music classes here in Traralgon, close to home. I quickly realised that person probably needed to be me, especially if I wanted it to happen while my son was still young enough to come along. I knew that running the classes would mean I wouldn't get to bring him along as a parent.

Today, I got to be a mum bringing my son to a class at the Nook for the first time, experiencing the joy and connection that I hope each one of you has been able to experience here with your own little ones. I got to sit back and enjoy the class, run by someone I can trust (thank you Simone!), using the curriculum I've worked pretty hard to put together. I got to laugh and sing and play with my little boy, not too different from these first ever proper giggles three years ago almost to the day.

I started this place for myself, and for him, and now we finally get to do it together, too.

Our brand new Thursday classes still have availability for the term. Join us and experience the joy. 🎶

Why start music classes with a newborn?

Your baby's brain is learning through music from day one. Long before a child can join in actively, research shows that musical experiences during infancy can support language development, strengthen parent-child bonding and help build important neural pathways in their developing brains. Singing exaggerates rhythm, pitch and sound in a way that helps them to begin understanding the world around them.

Your baby doesn't need to sit still (or even be able to sit).

They don't need to follow instructions.

They don't even need to be awake for the whole class.

They simply need opportunities to hear, feel, and experience music with their favourite singer: you!

Music belongs right from the beginning.

Our Baby's First Duet classes provide a rich environment of singing, movement, instruments, play, and joyful connection for your little ones. Join us this term!

What do you see? Claves edition.

You see children and their families playing the claves.

I see the ongoing weekly practise it takes to build skills.

I see language development through repetition of songs, connected to movement.

I see little faces completely focused on what they are observing around them.

I see how quickly little brains memorise through song.

I see learning. Purposeful and playful music learning. 🎶
