Another amazing day at the Speech and Drama Eisteddfod for our students yesterday.

The adjudicator made special mention of how fabulous our students were and the high calibre of performances they demonstrated.

Very special mention goes to Lachlan Finn, who won both the VCE Drama Solo section and the Richard Jackson Speech Prize, and Aliana Krieger who won the Secondary Students Scholarship Solo.

A VERY successful night for our students at the Speech and Drama Eisteddfod last night!
Hopefully they continue on with their amazing performances again this afternoon, and tonight.

The adjudicator spoke very highly of how well they performed, how prepared they were, and the great choice of pieces they had!

Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students Felicity Calagaz and Sophie Thomson recently took the initiative to bring together local and national stakeholders to discuss food security in our region and its impact across Victoria.

Following a round-table discussion with Luke and Gabrielle from Frankie’s Kitchen, Mark from Baw Baw Food Relief, Richard from Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery, and Samantha from SecondBite, Felicity and Sophie invited the guests to continue the conversation with our Year 11 and 12 Vocational Major students.

Lavalla Catholic College has had 3 teams progress to the SSV State Finals: Year 7 Boys, Year 8 Girls, and the Year 9-10 Boys.

The State finals will be held at Darebin International Soccer Centre in Thornbury in early September. Go Lavalla!

59 Lavalla students recently competed at the Division Athletics in Newborough. A fantastic day of competition, with beautiful weather and some sensational performances from our students.

This morning our Kildare based MacKillop and Champagnat communities came together for a shared liturgy focussing on the nature of charism and our call to follow in the example of Saint Marcellin Champagnat and Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Thank you to the students and staff involved in what was a poignant and moving prayer action.

Congratulations to our Senior Concert Band who were awarded Gold at the Victorian Schools Music Festival in Hawthorn last night! They were praised by the chief adjudicator for their ‘impressive interpretation, performed with spirit and energy’. Our students represented themselves and our college with real pride.

This week we are celebrating Isabella Blythman (Year 10) and her impressive large-scale intaglio etching, “A Dreamer’s Escape”, developed from an original Surrealist collage. As part of their Surrealism unit, students explored key ideas and art-making processes including juxtaposition, automatism and collage before translating their designs into etchings. Isabella demonstrated great control of the printing process, producing clean prints with strong detail and an effective composition.

A fantastic result. Well done, Isabella!

A big congratulations to our Intermediate Concert Band, who represented the college at the Victorian Schools Music Festival yesterday and came away with a Gold Award. This is a significant achievement, and a testament to the hard work they are putting in during their weekly morning rehearsals!
