As the weather cools down, little bodies need warm, nourishing food to keep them going 🍛

Today we celebrated first day of Harmony Day this week. We have different activities planned for each day.

Today we are focusing on learning the 3 Flags Australia Day Flag, Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag. Miss Julie had setup a sensory activity with rice with 3 Flags colours of red, black, yellow, green blue and white.
Miss Julie discussed with the children and in a video of what the colours and symbols mean on each of the flags.

Aboriginal Flag - Black represents people, Yellow represents the Sun and Red represents the red earth the soil to spiritual connection to the land,

Torres Strait Islander Flag - Green represents the land of the islands, Blue represents the sea and water, Black represents the Torres Strait Islander people and White represents peace. We also discussed the Dhari is white dancer’s headdress in centre represents Torres Strait Islander culture and people. The five pointed star represents the 5 major Island group Northern, Eastern, Western, Central and Southern.

Australia Day Flag - Blue represents sea and sky, White stars represent southern cross and then the Union Jack.

At Milestones Cranbrook we learn through play experiences, the environment and culture around us.

Recently we had Bernie Williams who is the Lead Program Facilitator from Harvey Bay, with the Jonathan Thurstan Academy visited our Centre. While catching up with his Aunty Julie.
Bernie enjoyed his visit with Aunty Julie and the children leaving us with lanyards, and other gifts. Bernie will be visiting us again soon to support us in being healthy and active.

Big feelings can be loud, exhausting, and sometimes arrive at the worst possible moment 🌻

For toddlers and preschoolers, emotional blow-ups often happen because they’re still learning how to cope with frustration, change, and big moments, not because anyone is “doing it wrong”.

At Milestones, we support children through big feelings with calm, consistent care, helping them feel safe while they build emotional skills over time.
