πŸ“š MEET THE AUTHOR - TRENT DALTON // This week, our Year 11 English students had the incredible opportunity to take part in a Zoom Q&A session with international bestselling author πŸ“–πŸ’»

Trent is the author of Boy Swallows Universe, which was adapted into the popular Netflix series, as well as All Our Shimmering Skies, Love Stories, Lola in the Mirror and Gravity Let Me Go.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to meet the author behind the novel they are currently studying, Lola in the Mirror, and gain valuable insights into his writing, characters and storytelling.

🎡🌏 YEAR 7 ENGLISH: UNDERSTANDING HOW ARTIST ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE // What does it mean to use your voice to make a difference?

Throughout this term, our Year 7 English students have been exploring the power of advocacy songs and poetry to raise awareness of important social justice issues. Through texts such as Dear Future Generations and Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, students examined how artists use language features, poetic devices, and powerful messages to advocate for environmental issues such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

Taking their learning beyond the classroom, students visited the College Yarning Circle and surrounding natural spaces to create their own advocacy-inspired poetry. Surrounded by nature, the boys reflected on the environment and crafted thoughtful poems that captured their perspectives, concerns, and hopes for the future. The experience encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of how words can be used to inform, persuade, and inspire action. Well done, Boys!
