We are sad to advise of the passing of Jacqueline Kearney (née Parker), author of ‘A History of St Anne’s’. Jacquie was a student of St Anne’s from 1954 to 1957. She was in Chatham House and became Head Girl in her final year at school. After earning at BA and BSc at the University of Queensland, she married George Kearney and lived in PNG for some time. On their return to Townsville, George was a Professor at JCU and Jacquie worked as a Counsellor while she raised her children, Kate and Maria who also attended St Anne’s for a time.
After the Sisters left St Anne’s in 1978, Jacquie took it upon herself to record the history of the school under the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent. She scoured records and compiled a detailed account of those 61 years. This is a valued resource and the School will be eternally grateful for her dedication to this task.
Jacquie was also a valued member of the Anglican Church and was made a Lay Canon after the family moved to Brisbane.
Thank you for your life of service, Jacquie. Rest In Peace.
