Science Week 2026 | Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all

'Science Week has been in full swing across the school! From Junior School to Senior School, students have embraced the excitement of scientific discovery.

Junior School students investigated density by creating colourful rainbow water towers, while Year 6 explored carbon dioxide in both its solid form (dry ice) and as a gas produced during chemical reactions.

Students across the school also put their knowledge to the test in Quiz in the Quad, bringing together a spirit of curiosity, teamwork, and friendly competition. In the Middle and Senior School, students delved into biological investigations through squid dissections and explored the remarkable world of slime mould, discovering how this fascinating organism helped inspire the design of Japan’s rail network.

It has been wonderful to see students engaging with science through inquiry, creativity, and hands-on learning throughout the week.'

Basketball News | Silver Medal at the CBSQ

'We are proud to announce that our Grade 5/6 CBSQ 3x3 Girls have returned with a silver medal in Division 2. This competition runs for two days and has 4 Divisions in the girls’ competition. This is an amazing achievement for this young team with only one Grade 6 player and by far the smallest team in the competition.

Competing against mostly Brisbane-based schools, the girls won four out of five games on day one, finishing second in our pool. On day two, we played a cross-over semi-final against Sheldon College, winning this hard-fought game by two points in the last minute! The team then progressed to the gold Medal game against Wishart Girls, losing 7-3.

Overall a wonderful experience with the team displaying great sportsmanship and performing above expectation. Many thanks to Co-Coach Ashley Foster, parents, and the school for supporting the team to attend this competition.'

Rowing News | Rowing Partnership Opportunities

The Cathedral School Rowing Program is inviting businesses, families, and supporters to partner with our rowing community through a limited number of boat sponsorship opportunities.

Following another successful season for Cathedral Rowing, these
partnerships offer businesses the opportunity to support our student athletes while gaining ongoing recognition across the rowing program.

Partnership opportunities include naming rights for a limited number of our Single and Double Sculls, with funds raised supporting the purchase of a new boat trailer to transport our fleet to regional, state and national regattas.

With only two Double Scull partnerships and five Single Scull partnerships available, expressions of interest are now invited.
We encourage members of the Cathedral community to view the
Partnership Opportunity document and, if you know a business or
organisation that may be a great fit for Cathedral Rowing, please feel free to share this opportunity with them.

Sports News | Brisbane 2032 Inspires Cathedral Students

What an incredible day at The Cathedral School as we welcomed representatives from the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games!

More than 1,200 students from Prep to Year 12 had the opportunity to hear from Brisbane 2032 Director of Community Affairs Dominique Lamb, Paralympic swimmer Grant “Scooter” Patterson OAM PLY and four-time Winter Olympian Alex Ferlazzo.

The speakers shared inspiring stories about resilience, determination, leadership and the journey to competing on the world stage. Our students were incredibly excited to meet the athletes, ask questions and, of course, get a close-up look at some of Scooter’s Paralympic medals! 🥈🥉

The message extended well beyond sport, with students learning about the many career, volunteering and community opportunities that Brisbane 2032 will create for young Australians, including right here in North Queensland.

A huge thank you to Dom, Scooter and Alex for sharing their time, experiences and inspiration with our students.

We were also thrilled that Scooter and Alex stayed on after the assembly to speak with WIN News about the visit. 📺 Tune in tonight to see the story!

The countdown to Brisbane 2032 is underway, and it was fantastic to see our students already so excited about the opportunities ahead.
