TC Alfred Weather Event - Community Survey

Given recent events in Southeast Queensland the Centre for Disaster Studies at James Cook University has developed the following online questionnaire to better understand community preparedness, information, evacuations, and impacts associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the flooding event. The intent of this survey is to learn lessons to better inform disaster management decision making and messaging for future events. The survey is public good research and not sponsored or paid for by any organisation or agency. Outcomes of the survey will be publicly available and shared with community, government, emergency services and other disaster management stakeholders. If you were impacted by this event, we would appreciate if you were willing to complete the online survey (it takes about 15 -20 mins) and share to the link with any you believe relevant. I appreciate this in an ongoing event but would like to invite those that have been impacted in any way by the rain event in North Queensland (late January -February 2025) to complete the following survey.

This replicates the Centre for Disaster Studies 2019 Flood event survey to determine any lessons learned and what we can still improve.

It has JCU ethics approval.

Today members of the Centre for Disaster studies presented on two very different research topics at the Australian New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference on the Gold Coast. Both sessions were well attended with insightful questions and even more valuable networking

Tornado trouble A new James Cook University study has found some Australians don’t believe tornadoes happen here – and it’s sparked calls for more education about these severe weather events.
