Plants and animals don’t fight the winter; they don’t pretend it’s not happening and attempt to carry on living the same lives that they lived in the summer. They prepare. They adapt. They perform extraordinary acts of metamorphosis to get them through. Winter is a time of withdrawing from the world, maximising scant resources, carrying out acts of brutal efficiency and vanishing from sight; but that’s where the transformation occurs. Winter is not the death of the life cycle, but its crucible.
Katherine May, Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times
Fear raging, I hide away, hoping light will pass me by and long for darkness to conceal my soul.
But no rest will visit my weary mind in places where truth cannot abide.
So I fling my door wide open....into the fight.

Often when I sit at my desk for long periods I not only feel tired but my thoughts seem sluggish. I have a sense of being less creative and lacking motivatation.
If I get up and have a short 15 minure walk my mood improves. This is not a fix for all that ails but it often allows me to re-energize.
Walking Can Lift Your Mood, Even When You Don't Expect It To Even walking inside an ugly building has mood benefits, a new study shows.

People use drugs because they work...drugs can make a sad person feel euphoric, drugs can make a grieving person forget, drugs can make pain seemingly disappear, drugs can take a curious heart on a roller coaster and drugs can kill.
Hope for addicts comes through building loving connections.

IT'S NOT KIDS.....
MIDDLE aged and older Australians are in the grip of an unprecedented drug crisis.
New data obtained by the Herald Sun reveals a surge in deaths among older Australians, with almost eight in 10 accidental overdose deaths now men and women aged 30-59.
In 2014 78% of all overdose death occurred by people aged in their 30's, 40's and 50's.
The change is baffling some medical professionals but for those who work in the AOD industry it has been a growing issue for 20 years as more and more people are prescribed painkillers and drugs for issues of mental illness. These drugs on their own put to proper use are helpful but mixed together and taken with alcohol are a lethal cocktail.
71% :::: Prescription drugs were responsible for 71% DRUG RELATED deaths in Australia.
We only see kids mucking about and stealing cars as the problem. Yet it is average middle aged aussies dying at alarming rates.
