National Science Week at Goodstart Kelso 🧪🔬🌱

This week we are celebrating National Science Week with fun activities that encourage children to explore, discover, and learn about the world around them. Through hands-on experiments, nature play, and sensory experiences, the children will develop their curiosity and enjoy learning as little scientists.

We have been learning our letters in Kindy 2 and today we focused on the letter O. The children enjoyed making octopus crafts using paper plates, pipe cleaners, glue, and googly eyes. This hands-on activity supported their creativity, fine motor skills and understanding of the letter O as they explored a word that begins with this letter. 🐙🔤

Today in Toddler 1 we enjoyed a busy day outdoors encouraging the children to explore, make choices, and build their independence.

Some of the experiences included:

• Sensory tray with trucks where children continued learning about different vehicles and their purposes, linking to our vehicles-themed week.

• Water play with blue tubes and balls, exploring cause and effect as children watched how the balls moved through the water.

• Individual reading time, supporting language development and a love of books.

It was lovely to see the children engaged, curious, and confident in their learning throughout the day. 😊

Today in Nursery 2 Miss Sam organised a fun outdoor art activity for the children.
Using bright colours such as purple, red, green, and blue, the children created beautiful butterfly paintings.
The children added paint to one side of a piece of paper before folding it in half and gently pressing it down.
When they opened the paper, they were excited to discover their colourful butterfly creations.
Everyone was very proud of their artwork and enjoyed exploring colours and creativity.

Today was a day filled with children's choices.
Outdoors, the children used the balance beam as a bridge while observing trees, patterns, and shadows in the garden.
Indoors, they created dinosaur imprints in playdough and examined the details with magnifying glasses.
Other children built ramps, experimenting with rolling cars into a basket below. 🌱🦕🚗

Last Friday the 24th July Goodstart Kelso celebrated National Pyjama Day. Children and educators wore their favourite pyjamas and enjoyed a fun day together while supporting children in foster care. 💙🧸✨
