Our toddlers have been enjoying a variety of colour exploration experiences designed to encourage creativity, curiosity, and sensory learning. Through painting with different materials, exploring colourful scarves, and investigating vibrant resources, children are developing their understanding of colours while engaging their senses in meaningful ways.
These experiences support children's fine motor development as they grasp, stamp, paint, and manipulate materials. They also encourage language development as educators introduce colour names, descriptive words, and conversations about what children can see and create. Open-ended art experiences foster imagination, self-expression, and confidence, allowing children to explore at their own pace without a predetermined outcome.
By engaging with a range of colours, textures, and materials, children are building important cognitive skills such as observation, problem-solving, and early classification while experiencing the joy of discovery through play.

At Kidzplay Currajong the Educators will do spontaneous experiences with the children and last week the Junior Kindy children created Indigenous Rainbow Serpent. Using a large piece of recycled cardboard as our canvas, the children were invited to paint and decorate the serpent using cotton tips and a variety of bright-coloured paints.
This hands-on experience provided an opportunity for children to engage in creative expression while learning about Indigenous culture and stories. The children showed great enthusiasm as they explored colours, patterns, and worked together to contribute to a shared artwork.
We invite you to take a closer look this afternoon, as the Rainbow Serpent will be displayed in the foyer as part of our Reconciliation Week celebrations and learning. We are proud to showcase the children's creativity and their participation in recognising and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

In Junior Kindy we have been learning about germs and how they can spread. As an experience, the children placed different items on slices of bread to investigate what might happen over time. We then observed our germ experiment, where we looked closely at which slices of bread had developed mould and bacteria and which ones had remained relatively clean.
After ten days, some of the bread had grown quite a lot of mould, while the slice handled with freshly washed hands was still looking much cleaner and healthier.
The children then washed the resources they had used to see if they could remove any germs and discussed how washing and cleaning can help keep us healthy. This helped us understand the importance of good hand hygiene and how germs can spread. Hooray for clean hands! 🦠👍

Junior Toddlers – Colour Exploration (Blue)
This week, the Junior Toddlers began focusing on the colour blue. The children explored a sensory water tray, where sea animals were added to extend their learning and engagement. This experience was linked to our colour book, with the blue page focusing on a blue whale.
Through this hands-on sensory activity, children were supported to develop sensory awareness, early colour recognition, and emerging language skills as they explored textures, water movement, and sea animals. The experience also encouraged curiosity, imagination, and fine motor development as children manipulated the materials.

Mindless and meditation
The Senior Kindy children have been practising mindfulness and meditation. They do deep belly breathing (diaphragmatic breathing) and all the moves and poses. These strategies are aimed at centring the students to encourage self-regulation.

Last week, Kidzplay were very fortunate to welcome a very special visitor who popped in to say hello — a gorgeous blue tongue lizard!
The children were fascinated as they learned all about his natural habitat, the types of foods he enjoys, and how gentle and calm he is when spending time with his friends. There was so much curiosity, thoughtful questioning, and excitement throughout the experience.
To show our appreciation for his visit, the Junior Kindy family proudly presented him with a basket filled with fresh, delicious vegetables, along with a special certificate of thanks.
What an exciting and memorable addition to our learning journey, creating meaningful connections with the natural world and fostering a deeper respect for living creatures

Today, the Junior Toddlers commenced their exploration of the colour pink. The children participated in a shared reading experience using our colour book, followed by a pink painting activity that will later be transformed into a pink pig craft. A pink sensory tray was also provided, allowing the children to freely explore materials, engage their senses, and express creativity through play.

Senior Toddlers - Building on an interest in painting our feet and exploring sensory experiences, children were invited to take part in a large scale, body based art experience.
A roll of butcher's paper was laid out on the floor, allowing children to freely choose their own paint colours and use their feet to paint, walk, and move across the paper.
This experience encouraged creativity, choice, and self-expression while supporting children to explore movement, texture, and colour through their bodies. As children painted alongside one another, the activity also promoted social interaction, shared enjoyment, and collaboration.
Through this sensory rich experience, children engaged their whole bodies in learning, strengthening confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging.
