!!2025 REVIEW!!
As I wrap up my year as President, I’ve been thinking about everything this group has done in 2025, and honestly, I’m so proud of what we pulled off together!
Some of the big moments for me were:
• Our Repro + Neonatal Tips & Tricks Night with Dr Takuma
• The HUGE First-Year Welcome BBQs in Townsville + Cairns with JCUMSA
• Our Women’s Health Careers Night with incredible doctors sharing real, honest advice
• Our two-day Doctors’ Fundraiser (a record breaker that funded a record number of birthing kits)
• Showing up for Women in Medicine, Endometriosis Awareness events + conferences
• Collaborations with JCU Surg, RHINO, PVOGS + SANTE (that birthing kit night with nearly 100 students was wild)
• Supporting OSCE Run
• Cairns’ Surgical Skills Night + repro anatomy review sessions across both campuses
• Mackay’s intern-readiness nights
• Introducing certificates to recognise our hardworking team
• And finishing with a record number of 2026 committee applications (so many we added two new roles!)

But honestly, the thing I’m most grateful for is the people behind all of this. Every event worked because our committee showed up, worked hard, and genuinely cared about women’s health and supporting students. I couldn’t have asked for a better team.
To the committee, thank you for backing me, for the late nights, the early mornings, the group chats, and the effort you put into every single thing we did.
To the doctors who volunteered their time, thank you for investing in students the way you do.
And to every student who attended, asked questions, bought something at the fundraiser, packed a kit, or supported us in any way, thank you!!

I’m handing over to the 2026 team tomorrow with so much pride. This group has grown so much, and I know it’s only going to continue getting better.

Before the study marathons begin, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on one of our favourite events of the semester: our Reproductive Anatomy Revision Night 🫶
Held across Townsville and Cairns, this interactive session was a huge success with fantastic engagement, hands-on learning, and loads of positive feedback from students. 🩺💬

A massive thank you to all the students who attended, our incredible tutors for volunteering their time, and the behind-the-scenes coordinators (including those helping remotely with writing revision questions!) who made the night possible. 💪

We’re so proud of how far you’ve all come! Good luck with your exams, and remember, your O&G crew is cheering you on every step of the way! 💗👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Maggie Grant Guest Speaker Night 📣📣📣
This Thursday, 11th September at 5:30 PM (Central Plaza, TSV campus).

We’re excited that our president, Rheannon, will be one of the guest speakers! She’ll be sharing her personal experience with preterm birth and how it inspired her journey into medicine, alongside her work in women’s health and advocacy 💜

✨ Free entry + food. Come along for an inspiring evening of stories and leadership in medicine!

Who is keen on being apart of our interest group next year?! We have had the most incredible year with wonderful opportunities. This group really allows students to get involved in the world of women’s health. If you feel like you are interested in this space, nominate yourself for a position by September 14th! We are looking more passionate individuals for our executive roles (President, vice president, secretary, treasurer). There is also roles for clinical school representatives and a social media networker!

We hope you’re all doing well! With JCUMSA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) coming up, we’re excited to announce that nominations for 2026 positions are officially open - this includes roles within JCUMSA, as well as our Special Interest Groups: INPSYCH, MINT, and JCUOBGYN.

The James Cook University Medical Students’ Association (JCUMSA) is the peak representative body for JCU medical students. We represent over 1,000 students across all six years of the MBBS course. With a committee of over 50 elected members, JCUMSA is dedicated to:

Advocacy for medical students at all levels,

Promoting wellbeing and peer support,

Facilitating engagement with opportunities, events, and external partners.
