Good morning families!
Miss Abbie and Miss Charlee are feeling jolly and in the Christmas spirit today! Our awesome educators have kicked off our Ronald McDonald House Toy Drive 🎁🎄🎅

World Mental Health Day - Friday, 10th OCT 2025
We would like to invite you to participate in an activity for World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2025 by writing an encouraging letter to your child/ren.
It can be as long or as short as you would like. You can even email a copy to:
[email protected]
with the subject line being: Mental Health Day Letter.
Or text us a message with the subject line being Mental Health Day Letter
We will then print the emails and text messages up and put them in an envelope to stick on our wooden tree, addressed to the child/ren for them to read on the day. The written ones will be provided with an envelope for you to stick them into and seal for privacy. These ones can be collected on the day and taken home to read with your children.
If you require assistance or would like to know more, please talk to Jemma who would be happy to help.

Term 3 of 2025 saw the introduction of possibly the coolest activity we’ve ever done at Weir OSHC: archery! After 10 weeks of lessons, our young archers took to the oval every Wednesday/Thursday with enthusiasm and well-deserved confidence.
What began as practicing range etiquette with tennis balls has since evolved into confident target shooting and even friendly competition among the children. As an educator, it has been incredibly rewarding to witness their progression—from hitting the grass, to hitting the box, to hitting the target, and for some, even hitting the bullseye. A very proud and exciting moment for everyone involved.
Our young archers should be extremely proud of how well they have learned such a technical sport that demands great strength, focus, and patience. Well done, kids!

Following weeks of safety lessons and practice drills, our budding archers finally got their hands on our brand-new youth compound bows.
Though these bows may look intense, our youth setups are designed to make this unique sport safe and easy. Blunt tips, arm guards, arrow rests, soft release cams and an adjustable string make for a comfortable learning experience.

We would like to take a moment to recognise the 29 passionate educators of Weir OSHC who work hard to create a fun, engaging and safe environment for all the children at our service.

To recognise and appreciate their dedication, this morning we held a morning tea and each Educator has a received a personalised certificate and gift bag to say thank-you.

With the re-opening of school - we are also back!

I am writing to inform you that Weir State School will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday 4 February 2025, due to the continued severe weather in our area.
As part of our disaster management protocol, we follow the advice of emergency services in making these decisions. We always act in the interests of the safety of students, staff and the wider community.
This decision has not been taken lightly and is based on an assessment of the current conditions and risks associated with movement in and around the affected communities.
I will continue to liaise with the Department of Education and emergency services, and I will keep you informed of any developments, including when we expect our school to re-open.
Before any school can re-open, an assessment must be conducted to ensure the site is safe, even for those that may not have been impacted by flood waters. These are necessary to identify any potential safety risks such as leaking roofs, fallen trees or power lines, or sewage issues. To ensure the safety of those undertaking the assessments, these will commence as soon as it is safe to do so.

Happy OSHC Educator Day! 🥳

Wednesday 31st July is National OSHC Educator Day. This is a day to acknowledge the hard work of our passionate educators.

We have 23 educators that make up the team at Weir. While many of our educators are only with us for a short time while they complete their university studies, they all make a valuable and meaningful contribution to our service.

Often there is a perception that our job is somewhat akin to babysitting but this is far from true. Every day our educators are keeping children safe, helping them with big emotions, planning and executing games and activities, completing written evaluations of the day and cleaning to ensure the children have a healthy environment to be in. Our educators work hard but we do try and have fun while doing it.

As part of OSHC educator day, we invite families to leave a shout-out to the team or an individual educator and leave it on our shout-out board in the OSHC foyer. If you won’t be visiting OSHC today but want to give a shout-out, please leave a comment on this post. 😊

On Wednesday we were fortunate enough to have Broadway Academy Townsville join us for an incredible lion king incursion! The children had an absolute blast. If you would like to check out the classes on offer at Broadway be sure to check out their page! We can't wait to have them back.

We are so proud of all our aspiring artists who helped create these masterpieces and they look amazing on display in the show pavilion.
