Today the children enjoyed some wonderfully messy sensory play in the sandpit! With the addition of water, the sand quickly transformed into a muddy mixture ready for investigating.

Using scoops, bowls and their hands, the children explored how the sand changed as they mixed, poured, squeezed and transferred it. They worked alongside one another, sharing resources, experimenting with different ideas and discovering what happened when they added more sand or water.

Experiences like this provide lots of opportunities for children to develop their fine motor skills, coordination, problem-solving and social skills while learning through hands-on exploration.

Mondays are for stories, shelves and little book discoveries. 📚✨

Our Kinder children enjoy regular library sessions where they can browse, choose books and spend time exploring stories that spark imagination and conversation.

These visits help build early literacy, listening skills, language development and a love of reading, while also supporting confidence and independence as children make their own book choices.

Coffee for the grown-ups, playtime for the little ones. ☕👶🧡

Cuppas & Crawlers is coming to The Hive Early Learning Centres Torquay, creating a relaxed Friday morning for parents, carers and babies aged 0–18 months to connect, chat and enjoy some gentle play together.

Come along for a cuppa, meet other local families and enjoy a welcoming space designed for those early months of parenthood.

Child Protection Week is a good time to remind our families about the conversations we have with children around safety.

Child safety is also about helping children feel safe with one another. Across our rooms, we talk about respecting each other’s bodies and personal space, listening when someone says “no” or “stop,” using safe hands and telling an educator if they or another child need help.

Our Kinder children explored this through a group experience using a large ball of yarn. As the yarn was passed around the circle, each child held onto their piece until they were all connected by a large web in the middle. It was a simple way to show the children that they are part of a community and that we all play a part in helping each other feel safe and included.

We also speak with the children about body safety, personal boundaries and the trusted adults they can turn to if they ever feel worried, uncomfortable or unsafe. We remind them that they can tell a safe adult anything, that we don’t keep secrets at childcare and that they should keep telling until someone listens.

Who is a part of your child's safety team?

We have provided a template for you to complete together at home. We also have a library of child safety books available for families to sign out and read with their child. These books are used within our rooms too, in ways that suit the age and understanding of the children.

These aren’t conversations we only have during Child Protection Week. They are an ongoing and important part of what we do.

This week we recognized R U OK? Day across the service.

The children helped make care cups for our families, with a warming hot chocolate and some biscuits to take home. Across the rooms, we also had lots of conversations about feelings, checking in on others and who we can talk to when we’re not feeling okay.

We are here to support your children, but we are also here for you. We know parenting can be a lot sometimes and we want our families to feel comfortable reaching out if they are having a tough time.
