Vaughan Lamb gave us a fascinating lecture about the American War of Independence this afternoon. Very interesting to understand a bit more about the events that led to the war and how this has shaped today’s USA.

THE ROLE OF RELIGION IN US HISTORY
Yesterday we were treated to a fascinating presentation from John Powers on the role of religion in US history. It was a real eye opener to me to learn about the importance of religion to many people in the USA and their sincere belief that a god is looking after them; even down to victory in the sporting arena. We are looking forward to hearing from more experts on the USA on Thursday afternoons over this term.

Term 3 at U3A Surf Coast is off to a flying start, but there are still a couple of vacancies in some courses. A popular, and timely, series of classes focusing on different aspects of USA culture and history will run over terms 3 and 4 to mark the 250th year Anniversary of Independence. These sessions are all open to the public – free of charge
