"๐™’๐™๐™–๐™ฉ?"

This is Mr almost 4's favourite word today ๐Ÿ˜†

How can we encourage words other than "what"?
- Model it: Children pick up your phrasing, moving away from "what" and "huh".
- Don't respond to "what": When they say "what," pause and look expectant. Often they'll self-correct to "pardon?"
- Praise the swap: The second they use it, reinforce it.
- Teach other ways for using "what": "I'm sorry, could you repeat that?", "Sorry, I didn't catch that", "Sorry, I didn't hear you", "Could you say that again, please?".
- Explain the why: "Pardon shows respect. It tells people you were listening"

EYLF LO5 V2.0 Children are effective communicators:
: Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes when they engage in enjoyable interactions, respond verbally and non-verbally, interact with others, clarify and challenge thinking, negotiate and share new understandings, engage in play that promote listening and engagement.

National Go Fishing Day on June 18 encourages us to drop a line - in the nearest stream, pond, lake, or river. Taking a break from our daily routine to bait a hook and catch some fish can be a relaxing endeavor.

Today, mwe connected with 'National Go Fishing Day' with story time and magnetic alphabet themed fishing!

๐ŸŸ 'Andre Goes Fishing' By Mikaela Wilson story time:
Andre and his dad are going fishing today. It's Andre's very first time, and he is super excited... until it starts to rain. Seeing Andre's disappointment, Dad comes up with a creative new plan.
Today we joined Andre and his Dad for some indoor adventures as they embark on a fishing trip without ever leaving their house, learning rainy days really can be fun!
A story that promotes imagination, that not all things go to plan, but using imagination, Andrรฉ and his Dad transform simple household objects like a bed (boat) broom (fishing rod) and a pillow (fish) into tools for a fishing adventure. Imagination gives the opportunity for children to explore new ideas, practice problem-solving, plan and test ideas and take calculated risks.

๐ŸŸ "The Rainbow Fish A B C" by Pfister Marcus story time:-
A story that uses the Rainbow Fish characters to teach letters.
Each letter of the alphabet gets a page with Rainbow Fish or his ocean friends.

Children learn:-
โ–ช๏ธLetter recognition and phonics: Connects each letter to a meaningful word they know from the story. โ€œF is for Fishโ€ sticks better than random words because they love Rainbow Fish already.
โ–ช๏ธVocabulary building: Introduces ocean words: anemone, coral, plankton, whale.
โ–ช๏ธReinforces social-emotional themes: โ€œS is for Shareโ€ and โ€œF is for Friendโ€, core lessons about kindness.

First time walking the climber today!!!! No crawling, no on the tummy, walking!

Yay CB!

CB expressed a sense of pride and accomplishment as he was guided through his hesitance of walking the climber today. CB had support from myself and MT who was also supporting CB to succeed, offering his hand... But CB was up for the challenge, talking himself through the process, and succeeding not once, but twice!!
CB is developing gross motor skills, building confidence to explore and take risks.
CB is building his social skills as he interacts with his educator and peers

World Crocodile Day is celebrated globally every year on June 17th. It is a special day created to raise awareness about these ancient reptiles, highlight the threats they face, and promote conservation efforts.

๐ŸŠ About Crocodiles with Steve Irwin:-
When you think of crocodiles, who do we Aussies instantly think of? Steve Irwin! So today for World Crocodile Day, we connected with this Aussie icon to learn more about crocodiles.
Steve Irwin began crocodile research in the 1980s and his capture and study techniques remain the worldโ€™s best to this day. Australia Zoo, in partnership with The University of Queensland (UQ) and Wildlife Warriors, now manages the largest and most successful croc research project in the world.

FACT:-
Water that is just two feet deep (60cm) is enough for a four-metre crocodile to hide from you. Even if he's only two metres away from your feet, you won't see him. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿซฃ

Today linking to HLs first excititng visit to the Dentist, and World Crocodile Day, we read two cool tooth related stories "Croc Goes to the Dentist" and "Sneaky Snappy Mr Croc".

Linking a dentist book to a childs own dental experience connects story-world to real-world, helping make sense of experiences (narrative and memory).
Why it matters? Processing big or unfamiliar experiences by linking them into stories, reduces fear of the unknown, helps them name their own feelings and experiences, builds emotional resilience and reduces anxiety through familiarity.

๐ŸŠ "Croc Goes to the Dentist" By: Sue Graves offers a gentle introduction to the experience of visiting the dentist for young children.
This funny, charming story is the perfect way to introduce young children to the experience of visiting the dentist and or to talk through and reflect on their own experiences.
Crocodile loves sweet things, but when her teeth start to hurt, she needs to visit the dentist. Crocodile feels nervous, but the dentist is very kind.
A great book providing a gentle means of discussing experiences, boosting self-esteem and reinforcing hygienic behaviours, supporting personal, social and emotional development.

๐ŸŠ"Sneaky Snappy Mr Croc" by Kate Thomson story time:-

Sneaky snappy Mr Croc has a toothache! He needs someone to help him pull the tooth out, but every time an animal looks inside his mouth, he can't help butโ€ฆ.Snap! Snap! Snap!
Children were delighted with this funny, tactile storybook with an integral hand puppet perfect for interactive storytime. This book opened up the discussion of dental care, and dangerous animals.
A story that teaches children:-
โ–ช๏ธActions have consequences:-
Mr Croc is sneaky and loves to snap at other animals or trick them. But his behavior backfires. He often ends up embarrassed, lonely, or in trouble. Children learn that being mean or sneaky pushes friends away.
โ–ช๏ธKindness Matters:-
Mr Croc realises heโ€™d rather have friends than be feared. When he stops snapping and starts sharing or helping, the other animals welcome him. A lesson in choosing kindness.
โ–ช๏ธFeelings matter:-
The other animals feel scared or sad when Mr Croc is snappy. This helps children understand how their actions affect others, building empathy.
โ–ช๏ธYou can change:-
Mr Croc isnโ€™t a โ€œbad foreverโ€ character. He learns, apologises, and changes his ways. This teaching children that making mistakes doesnโ€™t make you bad, and you can choose better.

"๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’๐’–๐’“ ๐’”๐’•๐’๐’“๐’Š๐’†๐’” ๐’•๐’ ๐’๐’Š๐’‡๐’†"...

Extending our story time into a visual re-enactment sensory table that promotes dental hygiene. Children made sure they brushed the germs away, ensuring their crocodile "didn't get a tooth ache".

World Sea Turtle Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats.
Dive into the world of sea turtles and celebrate their beauty and importance on World Sea Turtle Day! Originating as an initiative by the Sea Turtle Conservancy, this annual event aims to educate people about the threats of sea turtles, including habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change, and inspire action to protect them. A day to support conservation efforts, spread awareness, and learn more about these fascinating marine reptiles. Without change, without making a difference, these beautiful sea creatures won't be around to call the ocean their home.

Today MT gathered the toy cars, taking them to the deck. He was seen driving his cars straight, along each plank.

MT is connecting with schematic play; specifically the trajectory and transporting schemas.
Transporting: Moving cars from one place to another.
Trajectory: The movement of the car along a line.

MT enhances his symbolic thinking, seeing a deck/plank and deciding "this is a road".

As MT gathered cars, he is planning and problem solving.
Gathering the cars was goal-directed. "I need cars for my road." Thatโ€™s executive function; planning, organizing, adapting.

MTs child-led, play-based learning helps him engage in exploring spatial concepts through imaginative play, using the environment as a third teacher; the deck/planks became the learning material.

He has noticed the deck boards are parallel lines. Driving within them teaches boundaries, direction, left/right, over/under, building foundations for math, leading to mapping, writing between lines, and even playing sports.

MT is learning through sequencing and cause-effect; lining up cars, driving one after another, following the plank. He is creating order: first, next, last.

EYLF LO4 V2.0 Children develop a growth mindset and learning dispositions such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity when they express wonder and interest in their environments, are curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning and use movement to play and explore.
