Today is Early Childhood Educators’ Day – a day to recognise and celebrate the wonderful work of Australia’s early childhood educators and the important contribution they make to the wellbeing, learning and healthy development of young children.
While early learning environments are sometimes referred to as ‘just childcare’ or, worse still, ‘babysitting’, we know that what happens here at Mirambeena is so much more.
Early childhood is where children begin to discover who they are and how they fit into the world around them. It is where they are encouraged to explore, experiment, ask questions, take risks, solve problems, express themselves and, most importantly, develop the confidence to believe in themselves as capable and curious learners.
At Mirambeena, we are also incredibly proud of our diverse and multicultural community. Every day, your children have opportunities to learn about and celebrate different cultures, perspectives and experiences. Embracing diversity and inclusion from an early age helps children develop curiosity, kindness, acceptance and respect for others – building foundations for a more inclusive and respectful community and, ultimately, a more reconciled nation.
None of this valuable learning happens without our passionate, caring and nurturing team of educators.
Our educators don't simply ‘turn up to work’. They build relationships. They comfort children when they are sad, celebrate their achievements, encourage them when something is difficult, help them navigate friendships and big emotions, support their growing independence and create the safe, secure environment in which children can learn and thrive.
And they do all of this even on the days when the job is incredibly challenging. Despite the occasional kick, hit, bite, splash, thrown object or colourful piece of language, they continue to greet your children with a smile, encourage them, care for them and treat each child with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Today is a chance to say a huge THANK YOU.
Thank you to the educators who are starting your children on their early learning journey; who encourage those first tentative steps, celebrate successful trips to the toilet, patiently support attempts at self-regulation, wipe away tears, share in laughter, answer endless questions and celebrate the many little achievements that make up a child’s day.
These moments may seem small, but they are the building blocks of something very big.
So, if you see one of our educators, please take a moment to say THANK YOU.
They deserve to know just how much the work they do matters.
