ECONOMICS IN ACTION | Our Year 11 Economics students recently attended a special Queensland Economics Teachers' Association (QETA) event along with St Mary's College at The Glennie School, gaining valuable insights into the real-world application of economics and its influence on public policy.

Students heard from representatives of the Reserve Bank of Australia, who provided a contemporary macroeconomic update and explored the role economics plays in shaping decisions that impact Australians every day. They also had the opportunity to learn from industry professionals, including Craig Lawrence from Lytton Advisory and Dr Karen Hooper, Queensland Productivity Commissioner, who shared their experiences and highlighted the diverse career pathways available in economics.

The event challenged students to think critically about current economic issues while connecting classroom learning with real-world policy, finance, business and government decision-making. Through discussions and networking opportunities, students gained a deeper understanding of how economic principles help shape the world around us.

FATHER'S DAY BREAKFAST | This morning, we were delighted to welcome fathers, grandfathers and important father figures from our College community for a morning of coffee, burgers and friendly competition.

Our Callaghan Centre was filled with warmth, laughter and community spirit as dads and daughters teamed up to battle it out for this year's coveted prize, and, of course, a generous supply of chocolate! From Esky Toss to Hoop Shoot and competitive determination, it was wonderful to see so many special connections celebrated through shared smiles and memorable moments.

Adding to the atmosphere, our Hospitality students put their skills into practice, serving delicious hot drinks to competitors and guests throughout the morning, while our Catering team kept everyone fuelled with an outstanding breakfast.

A heartfelt thank you to our Wellbeing Team for hosting such a fantastic event, and to our Catering and Hospitality teams for helping create a morning that was enjoyed by all. We are grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate the important father figures in our students' lives ahead of Father's Day this weekend.

UNISQ DISCOVERY DAY | Our eager Year 7 and 8 students recently enjoyed a fantastic experience at the Discovery Day, immersing themselves in a range of hands-on activities designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning.

Throughout the day, students embraced every opportunity to explore new ideas, challenge themselves, and engage enthusiastically with each activity. From problem-solving tasks to interactive learning experiences, they approached each challenge with confidence, curiosity and a positive attitude.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented the College, demonstrating respect, enthusiasm and maturity at every opportunity. Their willingness to step outside their comfort zones, ask questions and make the most of the experience was wonderful to see.

A rewarding and memorable day all round, and one that has no doubt sparked new interests and aspirations for the future!
