A new display mounted by the UniSQ Historical Archives celebrates the 20th anniversary of the opening of UniSQ Springfield. The campus was created at the purpose-built Education City in Greater Springfield in Brisbane’s south-western corridor. It opened with a cohort of approximately 400 students. Programs were offered from Faculties of Arts, Business, Education and Sciences and students studied at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Springfield campus was created to provide higher education opportunities in Brisbane’s rapidly developing south-western corridor. One of the key principles of the campus was its theme of ‘community centred – career focused.
The ‘20th anniversary of the opening of UniSQ Springfield’ exhibition includes photographs of Springfield campus, memorabilia and articles following different milestones achieved through the years. The exhibition can be seen on Level 3 of the Library in R Block, Toowoomba.

Telex Headset with microphone – Model 1209 (circa 1984)
Another interesting historical item that can be found in the exhibits in the UniSQ Historical Archives building is a Telex headset with microphone that was used in the Electric Piano Laboratory in the former Faculty of Arts. Each piano had a headset so the tutor could talk to each student in the class without involving everyone.

10 years ago, the Bachelor of Aviation commenced at Springfield campus. The students studying the Flight Operations major can undertake flight training during their second academic year before having the opportunity to complete the third year of their degree online. The University has two flight simulators. The Boeing 737-800 simulator at Springfield campus and the Airbus A320 in Toowoomba. The simulators provide students with the most realistic multi-crew simulated training in an aircraft cockpit.
Last year the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Aviation was introduced responding to the increasing need for aviation leaders with technical knowledge and strategic management skills.
