Rufus is hard at work supervising the workshop and making sure everything is "cool bananas" for this year's Brass Monkeys Formation Weekend!

Brass Monkeys 26 kicks off on June 26th, and excitement is definitely building amongst all those involved.

Keep your eyes skyward over Toowoomba and surrounding regions, as several CT-4 Airtrainers, CA-25 Winjeels, a Yak-52, and a Victa Airtourer come in from all parts of Australia to join in the fun. Pilots and aircraft are making the journey from as far afield as Perth, Mareeba, Jindabyne, and Newcastle—and, unbelievably, one participant is even travelling from Alaska in the USA! That's a lot of air miles for a troop of aviation enthusiasts determined to have a great weekend.

The skies will be full of aerial magic as pilots gather for a weekend of formation flying, friendship, and aviation adventures. We can't wait to welcome everyone to Toowoomba for another memorable Brass Monkeys weekend!

David Hack Classic 2026 was a massive success — the biggest and best yet!

The Leukaemia Foundation, Blue Care, and numerous local charities will benefit from much-needed funds, and this is exactly why so many people work so hard to make this incredible day happen year after year.

A huge thank you to IOR, Andrew Kennedy, Will Brown, Brisbane Bi-Planes, and all the wonderful supporters who flew their aircraft in to participate in this spectacular charity event.

The day simply could not go ahead without the truly selfless people at Rotary Club of North Toowoomba, who dedicate an extraordinary amount of time and effort into producing this outstanding community event.

What a fantastic day for Toowoomba, aviation, and charity! Thanks to Lenn Bayliss who provided some of the attached photos.

We were delighted to provide Brian with a re-familiarization flight in our CA-25 Winjeel, allowing him to recapture his flying experiences.

Brian joined the RAAF in June 1964 and started flying Winjeels on BFT #55. He had a fantastic time reliving his flying memories and Matt equally enjoyed exchanging flying stories with him.

It was a pleasure hosting the Garden City Probus Club for a tour of our two hangars recently. We began with a delightful morning tea before exploring our working museum and maintenance facility, and finished with a visit to our Flight Training School.

We’re also incredibly grateful for the Club’s generous donation toward the David Hack Classic, which supports the Leukaemia Foundation and other local charities. Your contribution will make a meaningful difference—thank you for your support!

Successful second day of flying!

The CAC Boomerang A46-54, now registered as VH-MHB, is owned and was painstakingly rebuilt by Greg Batts. Greg received the wrecked fuselage from Les Arthur of Toowoomba in 1986, beginning a restoration journey that would span decades.

The last time A46-54 had flown was in September 1945, when it made its final wartime flight into the scrap site at Tocumwal Airfield, Victoria. Today, VH-MHB holds a special place in aviation history as the first wooden-shell Boomerang built since 1945.

Aviation heritage runs deep in Greg’s family. His father served as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War and saw Boomerangs flying operationally over Bougainville Island and Labuan Island.

As Greg reflects:
"It is satisfying to see it go to where it should be — in the air."

When VH-MHB finally returned to the skies at Toowoomba Aerodrome, the honour of the first flight fell to Scott Taberner, who piloted the aircraft on its successful take-off and landing.

Greg is quick to acknowledge that the project was never a solo effort. He extends his heartfelt thanks to the many friends who helped along the way, with special appreciation to Wayne Milburn and the team at Aerotec Queensland.

Thank you to Trent Pascoe for the fabulous video of this historic moment.
