The Yarra Link Project emerged in response to the desire within its founding members to provide a location for the community to experience an urban environment transformed into an ecological demonstration. We are committed to creating a space where indigenous flora and fauna can flourish and act as a base for education and exploration of the natural environment,conservation efforts and sustainable

technology.We also hope to reconnect with the meanings and traditional uses of the plants that were endemic to the area in order to foster a greater cultural understanding. In November of 2013 an opportunity arose to acquire a riverfront parcel of land within the Stonnington region and from there the Yarra Link Project found a natural home for these aspirations. The property provides a unique environment close to public transport and major population centres but also with a vista that makes the city seem far away. We hope to share this space and make it an integral part of the community as we learn about and revive the history,culture, plants and animals of this special location. Thanks to everyone that came down to Yarralink this morning to help with Clean Up Australia Day! We definitely collected allot of landfill and recyclables as well as two used needles. That's alot of waste we have prevented eventually ending up in the Yarra River and Oceans.

Thanks to everyone that came on Sunday for our first planting (1 of 2) before the end of Winter. It was a great success as we prepared the areas of land for planting with the traditional hand w**ding technique (using our hands). But more excitingly we installed our second but largest Vinyl sheet (post industrial waste from our kind friends at Rojo Pacific) onto a portion of the river bank to start some soil solarization (chemical free method of killing w**ds). We also tested a technique called flame w**ding where you use a flame to wilt and singe the w**ds. Overall we planted approximately 130 plants. But still 170 to go! Looking forward to this Sunday to finish it all off!

It's a cold one today in Melbourne, stay warm everyone! We can't wait for warmer days when the Yarra Link Project site becomes a little more colourful and green! 🌿🌳🌱🍃

Pictured here is the Goodenia ovata, a flowering plant endemic to Australia. Look at its glossy green leaves and the pretty yellow flowers! It flowers for most of the year, but especially from October until March, so come on down to the site and check it out!

Hi everyone,

We are holding a w**ding day down at our site.

The aim of the w**ding day is to prepare particular areas of the site ready for planting of indigenous plants which will happen after this session.

Richard Gray from Haas and Gray Indigenous Horticulture will be kindly giving a talk and demonstration on plant and w**d identification.

It's an open event, we welcome anyone that is keen get their hands dirty and help rejuvenate the Yarra River.

When: Saturday 24th June

Address: 70 Heyington Pl, Toorak VIC 3142 (meet at the corner of Lansell Rd and Heyington Pl and we will walk down)

Time: 11am

Equipment: Gloves and spades will be provided (limited quantity)
