Are you an aggressive, passive, passive-aggressive, or assertive listener?
As part of our foray into Podcasting, Michele and I went to an in-person business networking lunch yesterday, and the main speaker was Leah Mether.
She was fantastic.
Funny, engaging, practical, and very easy to listen to.
Her topic was communication, and one of the handouts included a quiz to help us identify our go-to communication style.
I thought I knew mine, but after doing the quiz, I realised something quite powerful.
I have changed. Not perfectly and not completely.
There are still things I would like to improve.
But I could see that I am no longer the person I used to be when it comes to communication.
I ask for help when I need it.
I say no with confidence.
I am more likely to pause and respond, rather than react.
And honestly, that felt like a big little moment.
Because so often we focus on how far we still have to go.
We forget to look back and say:
“Actually, I have grown.”
That matters.
Leah also donated her speaker fee to a local organisation, which I thought was such a generous thing to do.
And I loved that she proudly talks about being based in Gippsland. It made me feel proud too.
We really do have so much talent, heart, and wisdom in our own backyard.
What about you?
Would you say your natural communication style is passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, or assertive?
And has it changed over the years?
