Our Lady Of The Sacred Heart School, Thursday Island & Hammond Island Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Waiben (Thursday) Island and Kerriri (Hammond) Island is a Catholic primary school in the Torres Strait.

We are part of a family of 30 schools which make up Catholic Education, Diocese of Cairns. Our school operates two campuses - a Prep to Year 2 campus on Kerriri and a Prep to Year 6 campus on Waiben.

💛 Our Sacred Heart Team: THE HEART WAY 💛

Our Sacred Heart staff are stepping up for Camp Quality this September, taking on personal targets of 64km, 128km and 192km as we walk and run laps of the island for a great cause. 🏝️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Students can get involved too! Next Wednesday, we'll be holding a Pyjamas or Jersey Day. Bring along a gold coin donation to support our team and help make a difference for children and families facing cancer.

Let's put the FUN into fundraising and show what our Sacred Heart community can achieve when we come together. Get behind our team as we walk, run and make every kilometre count!

🏉 NRL Fun! 🏉

Last week, our Waiben students had a fantastic time participating in the NRL Clinic and Gala Day!

They had a great time learning new skills, building teamwork and staying active while having fun with their friends.

This was also great preparation for the upcoming Jim Graham Cup, with our students building their skills, confidence and teamwork along the way. 💪🏉

📚🥐 Books, Brekky & Father's Day Fun! 💙

It's been a busy and exciting couple of weeks at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School!

A big thank you to Sally-Ella Sloss and our wonderful community for joining us to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day at our Books & Brekky event. It was fantastic to see students enjoying stories, sharing a love of reading, and spending time together.

We would also like to thank Mrs Briohny Jones and our Year 6 students for organising our Father's Day Stall. It was lovely to see students carefully choosing special gifts for the important people in their lives.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these events so special for our students and families.

Au Esoau, Koeyma Eso! Many thanks to Napranum Early Childhood Centre for allowing us to use your beautiful story, We Look, We Find, and a Mina Big Eso to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Inspired by our new favourite text, our families have been busy beachcombing, collecting treasures, and creating together. Using found materials and ghost nets, we're creating an incredible Waru (turtle) sculpture and it's not finished yet! 🐢🪢🐚

We'll be bringing it along to Under 8's Day, where everyone will have the opportunity to add their own special piece and help our community creation grow. 🌊

We can't wait to see what 200+ Kaziw hands can create together!

🌿✨ Our Dioramas Are Coming to Life! ✨🌿

Our deadly Waiben Prep students have had a wonderful time bringing their learning to life through their diorama projects during Tinker Thursdays this term.

A very special thank you to Ms Bronwyn Buckley for visiting our classroom and supporting us throughout this journey. We loved learning with you and are so grateful for your creativity, encouragement and helping hands as we put the finishing touches on our creations.

We can't wait to showcase our finished dioramas and share our learning with our families at the end of the term!

Welcome to Term 3, Week 9

A busy week ahead at Sacred Heart with only two weeks remaining in Term 3! 🎉

This week, we look forward to welcoming our future students for our first Prep Transition Day of the year on Tuesday from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Additional transition days will be held throughout Term 4 as we help our newest learners prepare for their exciting school journey. We'll also be celebrating Under 8's Day on Friday.
