A DEADLY START TO NAIDOC WEEK π€πβ€οΈ
Today, we held a special assembly to launch our NAIDOC Week celebrations and commemorate 50 years of NAIDOC.
A sincere thank you to Christine Ross for addressing our school community and sharing such a meaningful message. We also extend our thanks to the parents and families who joined us as we celebrated this significant milestone together.
We are incredibly proud of our students who led today's assembly with confidence, respect and pride. From the traditional dancing and music to the sharing of language and culture, every performance was outstanding and reflected the talent, leadership and spirit of our students.
This assembly was a wonderful way to begin our celebrations, and we look forward to sharing a week of NAIDOC activities with our whole school community next week as we continue to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We are so proud of everyone ππ½ππ½ππ½

A TASTE OF THE INDUSTRY! π
The Chef Ambassador, Kiren Mainwaring, from Hospitality Group Training, came to do a demonstration to the Year 11 Certificate II in Hospitality students.
Students were super impressed with his delicious Chicken Caesar Salad and enjoyed asking many questions on the Hospitality industry, and his wealth of knowledge and experience as a chef around the world.
Chef Kiren was genuine and inspiring while the students were respectful and engaging. Very proud!π
A fabulously successful event! π§‘

A GUIDE TO FILM MUSIC πΆ
On Friday 19th June, 30 of our Instrumental Music students went on an excursion to the Riverside Theatre to watch a concert performed by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, who put on an engaging program performing and discussing music by film composer, Joe Hisaishi.
The audience learned about Hisaishi's music and style of composition and even got to participate as part of a piece, performing rhythmic clapping patterns whilst the orchestra played.
Bravo to everyone involved! ππ½

WE HAVE A WINNER! π²
Earlier this year, our Your Move student team received a very generous donation from Colleen Egan - Member for Thornlie in the Legislative Assembly - a $500 gift card from 99 Bikes.
To celebrate, the team decided to raffle the gift card during May. Staff were invited to nominate students who demonstrated our school values of Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility and Pride, with each nomination earning a raffle ticket.
The raffle was drawn on Walk to School Day by our Principal, Ms Ford, with the winner announced over the PA system.
Congratulations to Xavier, who had been nominated by more than one staff member for consistently demonstrating our school values. One of those staff members, Mr Zambon, was thrilled to see Xavier take home the prize!
Well done, Xavier! π

STEPPING UP FOR OUR COMMUNITY ππ
Over the past two weeks, some of our wonderful Year 7-10 Netball and Rugby students visited Huntingdale Primary School to run a series of clinics for the Year 6 students as part of their Step-Up Program.
Our students had the opportunity to coach, lead warm-ups and facilitate a range of skills sessions, demonstrating outstanding leadership, enthusiasm and teamwork. They were exceptional ambassadors for Thornlie SHS and represented our school with pride.
We look forward to continuing these clinics throughout the year as we strengthen our partnerships with our local schools and wider community. π

LEARNING FROM NATURE'S POWER π
In Year 8 HASS, students have been actively investigating the Whakaari/White Island volcanic eruption as part of a research inquiry focused on natural hazards.
Through their research, students have explored the causes and impacts of the eruption, examining both the human and environmental consequences of this significant event. Along the way, they have been developing their research, critical thinking and analytical skills by evaluating online sources and presenting their findings.
This inquiry has sparked thoughtful discussions about risk management, tourism safety and the challenges communities face when responding to natural disasters.
