Recently our students took part in the Darebin Schools NAIDOC Yarning Conference: an important initiative bringing young people together to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives directly from Elders, cultural educators and First Nations organisations.
Through yarning, storytelling and creative activities our students were encouraged to deepen their understanding of the continuing cultures of First Nations peoples.
We’re grateful for the knowledge and culture so generously shared with our students, and for the opportunity to continue these conversations within our school community ❤️💛🖤

Our Year 5/6 students headed into the CBD this week as part of their literature study of The Grandest Bookshop in the World by Amelia Mellor 📖
Set in 1893 Melbourne, the novel brings the history of Cole’s Book Arcade to life. Exploring the laneways and locations connected to the book gave our students the opportunity to step outside the classroom and see some of the places they’ve been reading about for themselves 🏙️

Term 3 is underway! 🐠 Our Year 3–4 students kicked off the term with an exciting excursion to SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium, building on their Inquiry unit from Term 2 focused on conservation, sustainability and caring for our marine environment.
As part of the Ocean Kids Conservation Program, students enjoyed a guided tour where they explored marine ecosystems, discovered the importance of protecting our oceans and learnt how small actions can make a big difference.
It was a fantastic way to bring their classroom learning to life, and the children had a wonderful day full of curiosity, discovery and hands-on learning.

A look back at the year so far at St Mary’s ✨
Between classroom learning, creative projects and community visits, it has been wonderful to see our students continue to grow and explore.
We’re so proud of everyone! The care and enthusiasm our teachers bring to each day is inspiring, and we look forward to all that’s still to come this year.

Inside our DigiTech room students are encouraged to explore, create and problem solve through hands-on digital learning 🧑💻
DigiTech gives students the opportunity to build confidence with the tools, and stay up to date with the technological advances that are happening around us.
It’s a space for experimentation and future-focused learning where they can ask questions, test ideas and discover what technology can help them create 📲

Our students recently welcomed a local kindergarten group for a morning of arts and crafts, sharing creativity together and a glimpse into their next chapter of schooling 🎨
This was a beautiful opportunity for confidence building and community across different age groups.
