⭐ PBL Focus – Week 8 ⭐

This week our Summit Stars are focusing on being Safe by learning to:

🟠 Eat our own food.

At school, this means students eat the food packed for them and do not share, swap or take food from others. This helps keep everyone safe, especially students who may have allergies, intolerances or special food needs.

Families can support this at home by reminding children to:
⭐ eat only the food packed for them
⭐ keep their lunchbox and drink bottle for their own use
⭐ use kind words if someone asks to share food, such as “No thank you, I need to eat my own food”
⭐ tell an adult if they are worried about food, allergies or not having enough to eat
⭐ understand that keeping food to ourselves helps keep everyone safe

Thank you for helping us build safe Summit Stars at school and at home! ❤️🖤

⭐ PBL Focus – Week 7⭐

This week our Summit Stars are focusing on being Respectful by learning to:

🔵 Respect others’ personal space.

At school, this means giving people enough room when we are lining up, sitting on the floor, playing, working at tables, moving around the classroom, and using playground spaces. Respecting personal space helps everyone feel safe, calm and comfortable.

Families can support this at home by encouraging children to:
⭐ ask before touching someone else or their belongings
⭐ use kind words such as “excuse me” or “can I please have some space?”
⭐ give family members room when they are sitting, eating, resting or working
⭐ practise standing or sitting with a safe space between people
⭐ talk about how personal space helps everyone feel respected

Thank you for helping us build respectful Summit Stars at school and at home! ❤️🖤

Usually, studying the Council agenda means sitting in a drab office with a stack of papers and a coffee. Yesterday was a little different.
What better way to work through the agenda than with the sounds of hundreds of students from across the Southern Downs filling the Stanthorpe Civic Centre. The choral section of the Border District Eisteddfod is underway, and the talent on display is remarkable.
As someone who spends plenty of time talking about the importance of community events, it’s great to be reminded that they are also about creating opportunities for our young people to learn, perform and grow.

Today, students from The Summit State School proudly participated in the Border District Eisteddfod! 🎶🌟

Our students performed beautifully in the whole school choir, and for the very first time, our older students also took part in the small group choral section — a wonderful achievement and experience for everyone involved.

We certainly missed the students who were unable to join us today, but every student who performed represented our school with confidence, enthusiasm and pride. You should all be congratulated on your efforts and the way you supported one another throughout the day.

It was also lovely to watch and listen to the other schools from across our district perform. There is so much talent in our local area, and events like this are such a special opportunity for students to come together through music.

A very special thank you to our wonderful music teacher, Mrs Amanda Reimers, for the incredible amount of work she puts into preparing our students — from selecting songs, to organising rehearsals, encouraging confidence, and helping create such valuable experiences for our students.

Well done everyone! ❤️🖤

🍽️ Free Food Friday was a delicious success at The Summit State School last Friday!

Students and staff enjoyed warm and hearty homemade meals including:
🧀 Ham & Veg Macaroni Cheese
🥕 Slow Cooker Fried Rice
☕ Warm Milo
🍫 Freshly baked brownies made by our Prep students!

There’s something special about sharing good food together on a cool day, and our students absolutely loved it.

Free Food Friday was a wonderful way to build connection, kindness and community at our school. ❤️

⭐ **PBL Focus – Week 6** ⭐

This week our Summit Stars are focusing on being Responsible by learning to:

🟢 Use equipment as intended.

At school, this means using classroom, playground and sports equipment safely, sensibly and for the right purpose. When students use equipment properly, they help keep themselves and others safe, and they show they are ready to learn and play responsibly.

Families can support this at home by encouraging children to:
⭐ use toys, tools and household items safely
⭐ pack away equipment after using it
⭐ follow instructions when using sports gear, bikes, scooters or technology
⭐ talk about why using things the right way helps keep everyone safe

Thank you for helping us build responsible Summit Stars at school and at home! ❤️🖤

⭐ PBL Focus – Week 5 ⭐

This week our Summit Stars are focusing on being Responsible and Respectful.

🔵 We are Responsible
Put rubbish in the right bin.

🟢 We are Respectful
Sit to eat and wait to be dismissed.

Families can help support these expectations at home by encouraging children to:
⭐ sort rubbish, recycling and food scraps into the correct bins
⭐ help keep shared spaces tidy
⭐ sit while eating meals and snacks
⭐ wait politely until everyone is finished or until they are told they may leave the table
⭐ use calm, respectful words during mealtimes

We love seeing our Summit Stars practise these important habits at school and at home. Small actions make a big difference! ❤️🖤
