WHO ARE WE...
Whale and Dolphin Sightings Australia (W&DSA) is a whale & dolphin conservation group interested in sightings and reports from across Australia. Our team are all like-minded citizen scientists who have spent years observing and tracking whales and dolphins. We have a special interest in Southern right, Humpback, Minke, Bryde’s, Blue and Beaked whale aggregation, distribution and move
ment through our waters. As experienced whale spotters we use our data and that shared on this page in the support of establishing and maintaining marine parks and sanctuaries for whales and dolphins. Our hope is to provide long term protected marine areas around our coastline for whales and dolphins to calve and nurse their young today and into the future. WHAT ARE WE ALL ABOUT, TODAY & INTO THE FUTURE...
We observe, study and photograph whales for our own enjoyment and for whale identification and research purposes. Our group actively encourages public involvement through education, participation and sharing. So please share any information from our page far and wide. Like many other conservation groups, we aim to help educate the community on the importance of protected marine environments, their food chain and the local marine ecosystem into the future. So please think sustainably and try to reduce your carbon footprint. OUR RESEARCH & WHAT WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE…
W&DSA is a non-government group interested in research for conservation management and supporting the long-term protection of the whales and dolphins that visit our coastal communities each year. We maintain a photo catalogue of sightings, locations, species, behaviour, time, and dates of whales and dolphins as they move through our waters. So please, if you see any, tag us in @whalesightingsaustralia
GET INVOLVED, WE LOVE IT
We love to hear about sightings from all around Australia. It is also great to have others contribute to our page with any sightings they see. Together, we can paint a picture of the whales and dolphins that live and visit our amazing waterways. To be a contributor to our research, simply share your sighting with any photos or videos on our page. You can also tag us in your own post. @whalesightingsaustralia. Make sure you share the sightings location, the species if you know it, the behaviour you observed, along with the date and time. WHALE & DOLPHIN EMERGENCIES
