Blacktown Sinhala School

Blacktown Sinhala School Blacktown Sinhala School was established on 26th of February 1996.

Blacktown Sinhala School is a community-run school in North Western Sydney dedicated to teaching the Sinhala language while nurturing Sri Lankan culture, values, and identity among children and families. As a school we strive to teach our children to write, read and speak our mother language, Sinhala. We also provide them with an opportunity to learn about the Sinhala culture and to socialize with

children from the same family background. Children attending school also get the opportunity to participate in Sri Lankan cultural events organized by the Sinhalese Cultural Forum, such as Bak Maha Rangana, Biennial Sinhala School Concert and the Biennial Mahawamsa Exhibition. Blacktown Sinhala School is partly funded by a grant provided by the Community Languages Program of the Department of Education, NSW. The language skills of our students are recognized by the NSW Government via the Ministersโ€™ Award Program conducted annually.

Last Sunday, Blacktown Sinhala School held a wonderful Kite Making Project, led by our Year 2 class teacher, Mrs Rovani Arachchige, as part of the Year 2 curriculum and supported by the BSS 2026 Committee.

Students enjoyed making and flying colourful kites together with their parents. ๐Ÿช It was a fun and educational activity that encouraged creativity and teamwork while giving our children growing up in Australia a beautiful connection to Sri Lankan childhood traditions. ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐโค๏ธ
