We are supporting our educators and our community preschool today, wearing pink and joining the fight for parity.

Media Release ⚡️ Community preschools across NSW are turning pink today as they call on the state government to provide fair funding for long overdue pay rises.

Teachers and educators are wearing pink and decorating their preschools as they ramp up their fight for fair funding to save community preschools.

The action comes after the Fair Work Commission (FWC) ordered the NSW government back to the bargaining table with the IEU, United Workers Union and employer group Community Early Learning Australia on 23 March. More than 100 community preschools are part of the proceedings.

The FWC on 16 February accepted the union’s evidence and recommended the state government take all necessary action, including to review and increase funding for community preschools to address the pay disparity between preschool staff and their colleagues in schools.

Since 1977, The Oaks Preschool has served families as a community, not-for-profit preschool. But today, our educators earn 30% less than colleagues in other settings because the NSW Government won’t fund wage parity. Our teachers deserve better. 🌟

🌟 Our children show us every day just how much they value and support their educators. Whether it’s a smile, a hug, or a helping hand, their kindness reminds us why these relationships are so important. 💕 Together, we’re building a community of care, respect and encouragement.
Start Strong, Pay Fair

22/09/2025

Teachers and Educators in NSW Community Preschools deserve fair pay and conditions.

There is currently a Multi-Employer Bargaining Claim for NSW Community Preschools before the NSW Fair Work Commission. Over 103 Preschools are being represented by the IEU (for employees) and CELA (for employers).

We are seeking Fair Wages and conditions for our Early Childhood Teachers and Educators. As our primary source of funding, we urgently need to secure a funding commitment from the NSW Government.

Over the coming weeks and months we will be sharing information on the current situation in NSW Community Preschools, and what we are seeking. There will be opportunities for you to share your voice and urge the NSW Government to provide the funding needed to not only Start Strong, but to Stay Strong.
