Kinma School

Kinma School Kinma is a dynamic progressive school in Sydney's bush environment, with an inspiring play-based curriculum where children authentically love learning.

For almost 50 years Kinma has been leading the way in innovative holistic child-centred teaching and learning, centred around the key areas of relationships, respect, reflection, creativity and intellectual critical thinking. Central to our approach are small multi-age class groups where children participate in self-directed and collaborative learning, while our teachers actively encourage and nur

ture the individuality of each child. Our philosophy is underpinned by a strong set of core and guiding principles, which are intrinsically practiced in everything we do. (http://www.kinma.nsw.edu.au/about-kinma/philosophy/our-core-principles)

At Kinma, we believe in encouraging healthy learning environments. Kinma is non-competitive and our community chooses not to participate in the NAPLAN tests or provide graded reports. Instead, all children are individually assessed on their progress and abilities. Non-denominational, co-educational and non-profit, Kinma is set on 5 acres of beautiful bushland in Terrey Hills. Kinma caters for children from preschool to year 6. We also operate a playgroup for 0-3 year olds. You are welcome to visit the school or book a school tour at any time - please visit our website for more information.

We loved our Annual Kinma Bush Dance!

What a wonderful night of community, connection and good old-fashioned fun!

We loved bringing our Kinma community together for a special evening filled with singing, dancing, delicious food and plenty of fireside chats. There was so much laughter, energy and joy as families and friends came together to celebrate our wonderful community.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, helped make the evening happen, and got up for a dance! Nights like these are such a special reminder of what makes our community so unique.

Until next year… happy bush dancing!

Come and see what Kinma is all about at our next school tour - Friday 11th September from 9.30-10.30am

There’s nothing quite like making music together!

Some of our Kinma Primary School students have been making the most of their lunchtime by getting together, practising their instruments and enjoying a good old-fashioned jam session.

It’s wonderful to see students sharing their musical talents, learning from one another and simply having fun making music with their friends.

Our students recently enjoyed Eco-Treasures, a Geography incursion led by a former Kinma student. Across two engaging sessions, students explored the marine ecosystems of the Manly coastline and learned about the importance of caring for our local waterways.
Younger students investigated the plants, animals, and habitats that make these environments unique, while older students explored biodiversity, ecosystem connections, and the impact of human activity on coastal areas.
The incursion inspired students to think about practical ways they can help protect and preserve our waterways for the future.

Getting your hands dirty is all part of the fun at Kinma!

Digging, sifting, making tunnels in the sand, exploring and working together — our children are learning through play, curiosity and hands-on discovery.

Because childhood is for getting messy, exploring and having fun! Sometimes the best learning happens when children are simply given the space to play.

We are enrolling now for 2027

Kinma Winter Wonderland Trivia Night

What a fabulous evening we had at our Kinma Winter Wonderland Trivia Night! From testing our trivia knowledge to plenty of laughs, it was wonderful to let our hair down, enjoy each other’s company and celebrate our amazing school community.

Best of all, it was a fantastic fundraiser for our school, and we are so grateful to everyone who helped make the night such a success.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, contributed and supported the evening — your generosity means so much and helps our school continue to thrive.

What a night!

A rainy day didn’t stop our play! We played mostly inside, creating with homemade play dough, cooking in the play kitchen, putting the babies to bed, while others enjoyed muddy puddles! We ended with fun parachute songs and games. Come along next Monday 9.30-11am in the Kinma hall.

As a part of Garraway's 'What inspires us?' inquiry, we received a visit from Maira Metelo, Creative Director at Saci Books.
She lead us through a story writing journey called Once Upon a Story.
Maira truly inspired the Garraway and helped them open their imaginations to plan and compose some truly beautiful pieces of writing.
After our session the children reflected that she made writing fun and not boring. Rocco said, "It was amazing because it taught me how to make up my own story." Reuben added, "It encourages you and inspires you to come up with stories and no one can stop your imagination." The Garraway children asked to keep their stories and to publish them for our annual Creativity Festival in September.
