I always find when we have a winter with few or light frosts as we did last year, the following year is characterised by risky behaviour. It is hard to resist planting when the water requirements aren't too onerous and then I always get caught as I have this year!
A sprinkler accidently left on over night resulted in frozen icicles on the nearby plants and a day later there was a python out and about. Strange winter weather. S & E

We have a mature bower bird in the nursery this season and a bower has appeared in the garden. I felt its interior/exterior decorating skills left much to be desired as all the decorations consisted of scraps of bailing twine. We scattered some treasure elsewhere but so far our bower bird has only managed to salvage a peg and a lid.

David and I have made the difficult decision to close or sell the nursery at the end of the year. The drought we are experiencing is not the only reason but it certainly makes our future less dependable. We hope our water supply extends until then. (To borrow a politician's line, we would like to spend more time together - I don't think that is even possible!) There is plenty of work outside the nursery with our dorpers to look after.
If anyone is hoping to order seedlings in Hiko trays for Spring, now is the time to let us know. We won't be taking more orders after June.
The nursery has been operating now for 34 years. I have really enjoyed learning about the multitude of beautiful plants out there and a little about their cultivation.

Well why wouldn't you if you were a kangaroo?
Lately we have been having a roo nightmare in the nursery. They get in by jumping fences/gates wherever they can as there is so little to eat outside the nursery. Then they enter an oasis with native shrubs, saltbush, plants all labelled and looking their best... It is all completely irresistible! Even the weeds in the garden beds get grazed off.
