So we've come to the end of the 10 deep breathing techniques that I feel could be helpful if you're struggling from any kind of stress, anxiety, overwhelm or just plain old worry.

I think I have shared a nice range of techniques - a flavour for every palette.

One size doesn't fit all.

Not only with regard to each person being different and therefore impacted differently by a breathing technique than another person might.

But different situations may require a different breathing technique too.

Once you've tried out different techniques in different situations as a consistent practice, you'll find that on most occasions you'll know which deep breathing technique is the go-to when you're feeling a certain way.

For those of you who struggle with constant feelings of anxiety, stress, overwhelm and worry and have not yet chosen to commit to trying out some deep breathing, do not fear, I will continue reminding you on a weekly basis until some day you succumb to the powers of deep breath work.😄😉

Be good to yourself . . . breathe deeply.🙂💜

For more info on the benefits of deep breathing and a practical demonstrations of 10 well researched deep breathing techniques, have a little peruse of my blog which you can find here:

Do you try to avoid your feelings – especially your ‘negative feelings’?

Do your feelings make you feel overwhelmed?

Do you regularly avoid your feelings by distracting yourself with food, alcohol, technology or something else…?

Are your negative feelings making you feel trapped because you can’t seem to shake them?

Or maybe you’re just feeling completely numb, emotionless…?

Feelings can certainly be confusing and difficult to deal with, but they have an important purpose.

Feelings are like messengers.

They give us valuable information so that we can make decisions, understand ourselves and others better, and get our needs met.

Recognising that something is wrong allows us to take action to protect ourselves.

No one wants to feel uncomfortable, angry, afraid, or any of those other crappy emotions, but if we avoid our feelings, we’ll miss the important messages they’re sending.

Can you see, that what feelings really are, is a gift?

So, be good to yourself and start getting comfy with those crappy emotions of yours today.

Near the bottom of the Resources page of my website, there is a lovely emotions exercise that works wonderfully for most of my clients - and me.😊 Give it a try.
https://chriscampbell.coach/resources

If you can't get your head around this, it's most probably best that you reach out for some professional help. Getting comfy with your negative emotions is an essential element of dealing with stress, overwhelm, anxiety.

The sooner you start, the sooner you will realise how much easier life can really be.💜

Do you have a conversation you've been putting off?

There are a shed load of books on the topic of difficult, crucial, challenging, fierce, important (etc. etc.) conversations.

But so many of us still struggle along without having those difficult conversations.

Those times when you know you should talk to someone, but you don’t.

Maybe you’ve tried and it went horribly wrong.

Or maybe you're terrified that talking to them will only make the situation worse.

So, you feel stuck - and it sucks!

Well, I can show you how to get unstuck to stop that sucky feeling.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 10th August, is my 'Preparing for and having difficult conversations' Workshop in Club Calm (my membership programme).

Not only will I walk you through the one particular conversation you bring to the workshop, but you will then have the tools to be courageous to have all those other difficult conversations that are going to continue coming up in your life.

You will realise that you have the power to create positive change from truly challenging situations.

You can register for the event as a one-off OR you can sign up to Club Calm for the bargain price of £1 for the first month and get a whole bunch of LIVE workshops.

If you have a conversation you're putting off, I'd love to see you there.

Whether you feel you suffer from some kind of trauma or not, The Wisdom of Trauma is a beautifully insightful look at how trauma of every kind, impacts each and every one of our lives.

I was invited to a free viewing when it was released last year but this week a 3rd client referred this film to me as being very valuable to him. So it made me realise it is worth sharing.

This film is no longer free and does come with a minimum $7.99 donation charge attached to it now. But after donating and watching it again, I can reassure you that it is worth every bit of the $7.99.

Just to also warn you that when you 'purchase' it, you only get 48 hours to watch it from the link they send you. So be sure you can commit to the 90 minutes before purchasing.

By watching it I know that it will help you build self-compassion, have greater compassion for others and also guide you in some way in practicing a positive approach to parenting.

And if you're feeling in some way disillusioned with where you're at in life, it will also help you realise that you have the power to change the cycle that brought you to where you are today.

Here's hoping you will find the 90 minutes to watch it and that you get the golden nuggets from it.

Sign up to watch it here
https://thewisdomoftrauma.com/

And after watching it, if you're able to recognise its value, why not share it with friends and family.

Can our deepest pain be a doorway to healing? Donate to watch the film We have translated and subtitled the film in the following languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian...

Ok, today's breathing exercise is the last of the bunch of 10. And unless you have a physical disability that means you can't walk, there are no excuses in not trying this one.

If you can't be doing with any of the "breathe in for 4, hold for 5 and divide by 12" breathing exercises, you can't get much simpler than this one.

And it doubles up as a self-care practice - because we could always do with a good walk.

So if you're struggling with stress, anxiety, overwhelm..., be good to yourself💜 and get busy breathing . . . and walking.😉

Journaling plays a key role in the work I do with my clients.

It can be fantastic at helping become more self-aware.

The self-awareness that shows us what is really going on so that we can start making some positive changes.

But it can't be any old journaling.

If you're trying to create some kind of positive change in your life, using your journal to rant on any kind of a regular basis, is not only NOT going to create any positive change, but it just helping reinforce a negative mindset.

Journaling to build self-love needs to be reflective and focused on thoughts and emotions for us to become emotionally resilient.

And almost most importantly, when jouraling, we need to commit to being kind to ourselves.

Some of my clients struggle getting to grips with this initially, but this suggested structure does the trick just about every time - so give it a try.

1. State the facts of the situation.

2. What didn’t go well (outcomes, thoughts, emotions)?

3. What went well (outcomes, thoughts, emotions)?

4. What would a more positive outcome look like?

5. What do you think you could’ve done differently to create a more positive outcome?

6. What are you going to try do differently next time? Add a timescale if relevant.

7. Visualise actually doing it.

8. Do you feel you could ‘repair’ the outcome in some way?
If so, what is it you feel you could do? E.g. apologise, be forgiving, have a difficult conversation to instil a boundary that you weren’t able to in the situation.

If you follow these prompts for at least one event from your day, and doing this most days of the week, I guarantee that you will start noticing some positive change after only a couple of weeks.

However, if life feels like a real uphill struggle most days, then you're likely to need more than just journaling.

But it's a really good place to start.

And if you need any help, you know where to find me.🤗

Be good to yourself and get jamming with your journaling.💜🙂

The real trick to happiness is not believing you’re perfect, but rather in coming to terms with all the ugly truths of NOT being perfect.

Knowing that you will never be perfect.

Knowing that you’re good enough even with all your imperfections.

Choosing which imperfections are worth attempting to improve upon . . . and which are not.

Committing to making small positive changes, one at a time.

And then believing that that is good enough.

Stay committed to being good to yourself to reach your 'good enough'.💜

And if you need some help getting there, come and join us in Club Calm where I will show you how you can use your day-to-day experiences to start practising for you to reach your 'good enough'.

I was lucky.

I was somehow brought to realise from an early age, that most things worth achieving, are going to require hard work. And the hard work is just a given instead of being an obstacle.

But I was talking to a friend this morning whose 11-year-old daughter suffers from anxiety which causes her to be reactive.

She had recently shown her daughter how to use deep breathing to calm herself down so that she could start to better deal with these situations.

She has already successfully used it on loads of occasions and has definitely realised the benefits.

Last night she had one of those reactive responses again and my friend encouraged her to do some deep breathing.

Her response was "I can't do it when I'm feeling like this."

So, considering my upbringing, I can understand how, when I was completely debilitated by anxiety a number of years ago now, I most probably found it easier than most to 'just do it' [deep breathing].

But that doesn't mean you can't learn to do it too.

If you're one of these who is also struggling to consistently commit doing some deep breathing every time you feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed, try consider the benefits that could come from it.

How much do you want those benefits?

Keep those thoughts in your mind when you're considering continuing to suffer rather than just spending a minute or two doing some deep breathing.

But like I've always said, deep breathing is not going to fix anything.

But what it does do is calm you down to open the door to deal with, whatever situation, in a healthier way.

This is likely to give you more of a chance to thoughtfully respond to situations rather than unconsciously reacting to them.

'Reacting' and consequences are most often synonymous.

These consequences then very often bring with them feelings of regret, frustration, anger or resentment.

Imagine a life with far less of those.🤗

So next time you're feeling anxious, stressed or overwhelmed, consider the benefits that could come from consistently practicing deep breathing of some kind.

And then get busy breathing.🙂

And if you have young kids, this week's breathing technique, Teddy Bear Breathing, is a great breathing technique to practice together with them to help them get into the habit of using deep breathing to calm down.

For more info on the benefits of deep breathing and a practical demonstration of Teddy Bear Breathing, and many others, have a little peruse of my blog which you can find here:

What if I told you you're not perfect just the way you are?

Read my latest blog (link below) where I share my view on the very often posted 'affirmation', "You're perfect just the way you are."

Building emotional resilience ultimately means falling in love with ourselves so that we confidently feel ‘good enough’.

This feeling ‘good enough’ then helps us be loved by others, and love others, far better.

In other words, it helps us build connections with others that are essential for a life filled with joy and happiness.

There are so many of us struggling to reach that place of joy and happiness.

It may surprise you to realise that the solution is actually really simple.

Note, I say simple and not necessarily easy.

It’s really all about creating new habits.

New habits of living.

And like it is with establishing any new habit, it takes practise.

For some, this will take far more practise than it will for others.

As you can imagine, like most bad habits, when you’ve been unconsciously practicing bad habits of living for years and years, it would be unreasonable to expect it to be a walk in the park.

But like any new habit, with practise, everything becomes easier and better.

I am running my first Club Calm Workshop tomorrow.

If you could do with building some new healthy habits of living, why not come join us.

It's 100% free.

The first workshop is focused on Planning For and Having Difficult Conversations.

There is hardly a person on earth that couldn't do with one of these.

And if you can't make the time, as long as you register with the link below, I will send you the recording.

I know that this workshop alone is not only going to help you have those difficult conversations you keep on putting off, but I will be showing you how you can start building new habits of thinking, which will create new ways of feeling to help you develop new healthy ways of behaving.

New ways of behaving en route to emotional resilience - so that you can be happy and generally anxiety free.

If you could do with loads more happiness and far less anxiety in your life, then be sure to sign up.

Until then, be good to yourself.💜
