At Newman College, August is a particularly big month of celebrations! 🥳

Would you believe that all our teachers from Prep to Year 3, our chaplain, AND our principal have their birthdays in this one month?! The Year 2 students enjoyed sending Mr Macahilig a celebratory message! 🎂🎉

The Church also celebrated The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the 15th, and today we remember St Augustine of Hippo - a Doctor of the Church and one of the most influential theologians and philosophers in history. 🌹❤️‍🔥📖 ✝

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”

St Augustine, pray for us! 🙏

Our Prep students love painting, and as they used their brand new easels for the first time, their eyes were opened to a new world of possibility: mixing the primary colours! 🔴🔵🟡

The children were fascinated to see how they could use combinations of red, blue, and yellow to create purple, orange, and green (not to mention brown…!) 🎨🟣🟠🟢🟤

We are sure that this is just one moment of wonder for them to experience in their art lessons, as they learn to respond to the world around them to see and produce beauty. 🤩🖌

Our Year 1 students have surprised themselves with what they can draw! 😮 ✏

At Newman College, we love sketching because it trains the children’s attention to detail and appreciation of beauty. As Mrs da Silva walked her students through the process of drawing spiders, they began to learn about arachnid anatomy for the spider life cycle. This is integrated with their study of spiders in their habitats and their reading of “Charlotte’s Web”! 🕷 🕸

We have a frame! 👏

It has been quite mesmerising to see the rapid progress on our building project in the last few days! This morning, our teachers had the opportunity to walk through the spaces of these future classrooms and visualise all the opportunities that can happen within these walls. 🤩

Congratulations to our Prep students on 100 Days of School! 👏🥳

From making 100-piece necklaces to feasting on fairy bread, the children had a great time celebrating this special milestone in their education. They also enjoyed sensory play, colouring in, painting, and play dough. 🖍🎨

Our Year Three class could sing you the answers!

As part of our classical approach to education, students learn grammar in depth and interactively. From singing songs about the parts of speech to analysing sentences, the children build an appreciation of the richness of the English language while learning to use it with flexibility and nuance. 🗣📝

The number of students who came to her Nuptial Mass on a Saturday afternoon is a testament to how beloved she is by our school community 😊

St John Henry Newman College has a small but active community! 🤝

It was wonderful to see so many families from our school gather in the heart of Brisbane for the recent Corpus Christi Procession. To join thousands of others in a public witness to our Catholic Faith was a very special experience. We are grateful to everyone who dedicated their Sunday afternoon to taking part 🙏✝
