Newsletter 4th April
Being CyberSmart
After expressing interest last year we have just been informed that the National CyberSmart Team will visit our school on Tuesday 15th April. The CyberSmart Team was set up by the Australian Communications and Media Authority in 2013 to visit school communities around Australia to talk about being safe on the internet, cyber bullying and using the internet responsibly. This is a free service and I am very pleased to announce that they will be coming to our school this term. I strongly encourage interested parents to come along to the evening session which is designed specifically for parents. The format for the 15th
April will be:
1.45 – 2.45pm: Grades 3 – 6 students (GP Room)
3.15 – 4.30pm: Teacher session (Staffroom)
6.30 – 8.00pm: Parent Session (GP Room)

2013 Parent Survey Results
Earlier this term we received the results of last year’s term 4 parent surveys. A random sample of forty parents were asked to participate in a DoE parent survey that asked 23 questions about our school in general, school management, teaching and student learning. A copy of the survey results is included with today’s newsletter. It was extremely pleasing to see that our results were above the state average in 22 of the 23 questions and ‘well above’ the state average in 14 of the 23 questions. It
was also pleasing that 100% of parents who completed the survey agreed with the following statements:
Teachers at this school provide my child with useful feedback about his/her school work
The school is well maintained
Student behaviour is well managed at this school
My child’s learning needs are being met at this school
The school is well organised this year
I have confidence in how the school is managed
Overall, I am satisfied with the school’s planning
Staffing
Commencing next Thursday 10th
April Tony Poynter will be taking some long service leave, which will continue into the first three weeks of term 2. Kate Nunn will be teaching the grade 2PP class full time from 10th April until the end of this term. I
will advise parents about who will be teaching the class for the first three weeks of term 2 as soon as possible. Melissa Vincent will commence maternity leave at the start of term 2 and on behalf of the school community I would like to wish Melissa and her husband all the best for the impending birth of their second child. Melissa’s temporary replacement will be announced before the end of this term. A further update on staffing will be in next week’s newsletter.
Champion’s Athletic Carnival
All eleven students who attended this week’s carnival performed extremely well and represented their school with distinction. I would also like to thank parents who helped out with transporting the students to the Domain Athletic Centre.
Special congratulations to Kiri Bain, Ethan Forbes and Nicholas Harnwell who have been selected in the southern team to participate in the State Athletic Championships in Launceston on 16th April.
