It is with sadness that we announce the closure of Possums Playcentre. This is due to the reduced enrolment numbers as well as the increased insurance and rental costs - all of which has led to the decision not to relicense. Our final licensed Possums session will be on the 7th November 2025…

But all is not lost!...

For families currently enrolled in Possums, Jo and Susan will be finishing off the year with Art Sessions with the support of Ally and Heather. These sessions will extend up until the 12th December. Subject to demand, there is also a tentative plan to extend these into 2026, and may encompass school holiday programs and art sessions for children aged 4 and up.

For those who have expressed their interest through our QR online form, thank you so much for the time taken in doing so. We will be in touch with you via your email to provide updates and opportunities for the Art Sessions should it continue into next year.

Possums has been a legacy within the Taroona community. Yes, it is the end of an era, but when one door closes, another opens. The very heart of Possums has always come down to the people within it, and the hearts within those people. It has brought joy and connection to us all, and we are absolutely blessed to have been a part of such a loving and wonderful community. And, with the prospect of 2026 Art Sessions and school holiday programs, we also have the opportunity to welcome some Possums alumni back into the space!

Thank you to everyone who has supported Possums over the years.
We shall cherish what we have had, but now look forward to seeing what the future will bring.

Possums held an event at Channel Court last Saturday. We made some possum masks and chalkboard signs! We'll be there again this Saturday 11th from 11-2pm, located in the empty shop next to Priceline. We even had "Mr Possum" come and help!

Come and say hi!

Some recent activities we've been doing at Possums: Sensory and messy play is important for early learning and development and is a part of the Early Years Learning Framework (2022).

One of the best things about Possums is that we facilitate activities that you may not want to do at home. The kids had a brilliant time getting messy and engaging in imaginary play! We experimented with cups, cutlery and things we find in nature.

And yes, before you ask... the cleanup for the pasta activity was extensive! 🙈

Possums Playcentre is a nature-based, community-run playgroup for children aged between 3-5 years. We are nestled in the heart of the Taroona community and run our services during school terms from the community hall. Our Centre is a non-profit organisation, run by a parent committee, and licensed by the Education Department's Education & Care Unit.

Possums Playcentre has been a beloved part of the Taroona community for decades. We incorporate the natural environment into sessions through the exploration of our community garden, local beaches and bushland. Other activities explored with the children include cooking, creative arts and stories. All sessions are run with the philosophy of free play and fostering confidence by qualified early learning educators and support aides.

To avoid Possums having to close its doors permanently at the end of 2025, we are open to expressions of interest for families in the hope that we can reopen in 2026. Please fill out the form below if you are interested in helping us continue!
