Our Year 4s arrived safely at camp yesterday and have already been making the most of their adventure!

They’ve been busy taking on rock climbing, low ropes, laser tag, the giant swing, candle making and games room activities, with plenty more fun along the way.

It’s been fantastic to see students embracing new challenges, stepping outside their comfort zones and enjoying every moment of their camp experience.

This week, our campuses came together to celebrate the dads and special father figures in our community ahead of Father’s Day.

Dads enjoyed a free coffee and breakfast while catching up and connecting with our community. Our Primary Years students also had the chance to choose a special gift for Dad at our Father’s Day stalls.

For our Prep students, it was all about spending time together, with activities including colouring, board games, making paper planes and putting their drawing skills to the test in a fun game of guessing Dad!

It was a wonderful week of celebrating the dads and father figures who mean so much to our students and community.

On Thursday 10 September, we’re coming together to support R U OK? Day and raise funds for Kids Helpline.

Students and staff are encouraged to add a touch of yellow to their day with a yellow headband, socks, hair tie or any other fun accessory!

Gold coin donations can be made on the day, with all funds supporting Kids Helpline. Donations can also be made online via Flexischools, open until Friday 11 September.

There’s also plenty happening across the College, with a range of R U OK? activities taking place throughout the week to encourage connection, conversation and looking out for one another.

HPE Week brought some friendly competition to the court this week as our staff took on the Year 12 students in a Netball showdown. It was a close and energetic game, but the staff came away with the win, 7–4!

We also had the privilege of having our Executive Principal, Mrs McAuliffe, running up and down the court as referee, keeping everyone in line and the game moving!

Last week, our College celebrated Book Week with a range of activities celebrating stories, creativity and a love of reading.

Throughout the week, students enjoyed lunchtime activities in the Library, including drawing and a literary quiz. Friday brought our Book Week Costume Parade to life, with students arriving dressed as an impressive range of book characters, followed by a lunchtime Book Week Fashion Show, where students competed for creativity and originality.

We were also thrilled to welcome poet and author Steven Herrick, who performed some of his poems, shared excerpts from his verse novels and even incorporated students’ names into poems. Students from Years 3–7 also had the opportunity to ask Steven questions about writing and poetry.

A wonderful week celebrating the joy of books, stories and creativity!

Our Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting, hands-on exploration of weather during their recent incursion. Students investigated how different weather events occur through engaging models and demonstrations.

They explored the movement of water and air, learned how rain is produced, and modelled fascinating processes including the water cycle, cyclonic movement and rain formation. It was a fun and interactive way for students to build their understanding of the weather around them.

Last week, some of our Year 10–12 students had the opportunity to attend the P.A.R.T.Y. program at The Alfred Hospital.

Students were given a behind-the-scenes look at the hospital’s trauma services and heard from a range of health professionals, including nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. They also had the opportunity to hear directly from a former trauma patient, who shared their personal experience following a serious accident.

The experience provided students with valuable insight into the realities of trauma care, the work of health professionals and the impact that serious injuries can have on individuals and their families.

P.A.R.T.Y. is an initiative of the National Trauma Research Institute and has been running at The Alfred since 2009.

Our Prep students have been celebrating Book Week by discovering the joy of stories in seven different languages. Students enjoyed listening to storybooks read in Greek, Te Reo Māori, German, Slovakian, Punjabi, Hindi and French, brought to life by our wonderful teachers and Year 12 students.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our Preps to hear new languages, discover new vocabulary and celebrate the many languages and cultures that make our school community so special.

Our Year 12 students enjoyed a memorable Celebration Day at Luna Park yesterday, taking time to relax, connect and celebrate their final year together.

With plenty of laughter, rides and time spent with friends and staff, it was wonderful to see students creating lasting memories and enjoying this special milestone in their final year at Good News Lutheran College.

A fantastic day of fun, friendship and celebration!
