🤖 Learning, creating and problem-solving with the UNSW Makerbus

Taree High School students put their STEM skills into action during a visit from the UNSW Makerbus, designing and building their own robots using electronics, sensors, coding and 3D-printed components.

Working through the challenge from individual parts to a functioning robot required students to apply problem-solving, persistence and practical design skills. They tested ideas, made adjustments and saw first-hand how engineering and technology come together to solve real-world problems.

The experience provided an engaging glimpse into future possibilities in STEM, engineering, robotics and emerging technologies, and gave students the satisfaction of seeing something they had built come to life.

A fantastic opportunity for our learners to create, collaborate and explore where STEM can take them. 🤖⚙️

❄️ DAY FOUR ON THE SNOW! ⛷️🏂

Another fantastic day for our Taree High crew on the slopes! With four days under their belts, confidence is growing, skills are improving and there are plenty of smiles… even if a few legs are starting to feel the kilometres! 😂

Today saw students continuing to challenge themselves, support each other and make the most of every opportunity on the mountain. From chairlift laughs to increasingly impressive skiing and snowboarding, it’s been great to see how far everyone has come since Day One.

A brilliant experience with a brilliant group of students. One more day to make the most of the snow! ❄️🏔️

❄️ DAY THREE ON THE SNOW! 🎿🏂

Another brilliant day at the snow, with perfect conditions giving our students the chance to keep building their skiing and snowboarding skills. ☀️❄️

Confidence was the big story today. After three days of persistence, practice and plenty of determination, many students progressed beyond Smiggin Holes and were able to explore the wider runs across Perisher. 🏔️👏 It was fantastic to see students challenging themselves, overcoming barriers and celebrating just how far they have come.

A well-earned hot chocolate ☕ provided the perfect mid-mountain recharge before we finished the evening with some serious competition at trivia! 🧠🏆

Congratulations to Bonny, Kasey, Lara, Charlie and Georgia, our 2026 trivia champions! 🎉

Another day full of challenge, achievement and great memories.

More adventures tomorrow! ❄️🏂🎿

🌟 Public Education Week: Inspiring Excellence Through Careers Education
We celebrated Public Education Week and this year's theme, Inspiring Excellence, our students have been discovering the exciting career opportunities that exist right here in our local community.

Sixteen Year 10 and Year 12 students took part in the Inspire Careers in Council excursion with Port Macquarie Hastings Council. Through site visits to West Haven, Laurieton, Camden Haven and Lake Cathie, students gained firsthand insight into the diverse range of careers and essential services that keep our communities thriving.

Students met with passionate Council staff from Parks & Open Spaces, Library Services, Wastewater, and Coastal & Estuary teams, who shared their career journeys, explained the important work they do, and answered students' questions about pathways into local government. The day also included some well-earned downtime at popular local parks, making it an engaging and memorable learning experience.

The learning doesn't stop there! In early September, all students in Years 9 to 12 will participate in an Inspire Careers in Council session at Taree High School. Representatives from Port Macquarie Hastings Council will showcase the many career pathways available, including the one-week Career Immersion Program, apprenticeships and traineeships for 2027, and the wide variety of rewarding roles within local government.

These valuable career education opportunities have been made possible through the collaboration between the Regional Education and Industry Partnership and Port Macquarie Hastings Council, supporting students across the Port Macquarie region to explore future careers with confidence.

At Taree High School, we're proud to inspire excellence by connecting students with real-world opportunities and helping them imagine the possibilities for their future.

Day Two 🎿❄️

Another day of cracking weather and fantastic conditions for learning!

Our students made huge progress today, with most successfully taking on all three lift types… the chairlift, T-bar and poma, and continuing to build their confidence and skills on the slopes.

Throughout the trip, students have embraced the idea of “being comfortable with being uncomfortable” - challenging themselves, having a go and pushing beyond their comfort zones.

We are incredibly proud of the way they have supported and encouraged one another along the way. It has been great to see their resilience, teamwork and willingness to take on new challenges.

Here’s hoping the great weather continues and there are plenty more good times ahead! ⛷️🏂❄️

❄️ DAY ONE ON THE SLOPES ⛷️🏂

Our students were greeted with perfect conditions for their first day on the slopes... blue skies, sunshine and surprisingly warm weather!

After four hours of lessons, students had certainly been put through their paces. From learning the basics to building confidence and refining their technique, there was some fantastic improvement across the group throughout the day.

It was great to see students challenging themselves, developing new skills and supporting one another as they tackled something new.

There were plenty of tired legs and a few sore bodies by the end of the day, but also lots of smiles and a real sense of achievement.

A brilliant start to our time in the snow. Bring on Day Two! ❄️⛷️
