This week our 7/8 and 9/10 girls basketball teams travelled to Broadmeadow for the Diocesan Championships. Both teams showed outstanding skill, tenacity and sportsmanship, proudly representing St Clare’s.

Our 7/8 team competed strongly through the pool stage, while our 9/10 team made it through to the crossover semi-final.

A huge thank you to our players, parents for transport, and staff who coached and supported the teams. Special mention to Charlotte Cooper for volunteering her time to referee throughout the day! 👏🏀

Centenary of Teaching 💯

Celebrating our Centenary means recognising the many educators and staff who have shaped the lives of generations of students.

Through their dedication and care, they have created the culture that is St Clare’s and continue the legacy and work of the Josephite Sisters. Their commitment to faith, compassion, service and community reflects the heart of Catholic education and ensures these values continue to inspire our students today.

Robbie Phillips, Jax Gillard, Liam MacArthur, Layne Young, Boyd Hammond and Chase Bates represented St Clare’s at the
Northern NSW Futsal State Championship.
Teams from as far south as Newcastle and north to Coffs Harbour attended.
Thanks to Mr. Pascoe and Mr McKee who chaperoned the students on the day.

💃✨ HSC Practical Dance Assessment Day! ✨💃

Today our HSC Dance students (Aria and Keeva) took to the stage at The Dance Establishment in Adamstown for their HSC Practical Dance Assessment. There Core Composition was performed by fellow students and dancers from St Clare’s (Kirra and Molly).

After months of dedication, rehearsals and hard work, it was wonderful to see our students showcase their technique, artistry, performance skills and passion for dance. 🎶🩰

We are incredibly proud of the focus, commitment and professionalism they demonstrated today. A huge congratulations to our dancers on completing this important milestone in their HSC journey! 🌟

Well done, dancers — you should be so proud of yourselves! 👏💖

A Centenary of Secondary Education 💯

For 100 years, St Clare’s has been so much more than a place of academic growth and excellence. It has been a community — a place of belonging, connection and shared memories. For generations, St Clare’s has been woven into the fabric of Taree, creating connections that span families, friendships and generations.

Today, 11 August, we celebrate the Feast Day of St Clare of Assisi, the patron saint of our College. As we celebrate our patron saint today, may we continue to follow her example and live the values she embodied: faith, courage, humility, service and love.

5 fascinating facts about St Clare:

📺 1. St Clare is the patron saint of television!
When Clare was too sick to attend Mass, she is said to have miraculously seen and heard the celebration of Mass on the wall of her room. Because of this, Pope Pius XII declared St Clare the patron saint of television in 1958.

🍞 2. She is associated with a miracle involving bread.
According to tradition, when Clare and the Poor Clares had very little food, Clare prayed over a small amount of bread. The bread was miraculously enough to provide for the community.

🛡️ 3. She helped protect Assisi.
When soldiers threatened the city, Clare is traditionally said to have carried the Blessed Sacrament to the window of the convent and prayed for protection. The attackers reportedly fled, and Assisi was spared.

✝️ 4. She was one of the first women to write a rule for religious women.
Clare was determined that the Poor Clares should be able to live a life of poverty and simplicity. She wrote her own Rule of Life, which was approved by Pope Innocent IV shortly before her death. She became the first woman to write a rule for a religious community that received papal approval.

🌟 5. She chose a life of simplicity and service.
Although Clare was born into a wealthy family, she gave up a life of comfort to follow Christ. Alongside St Francis, she established a community centred on prayer, poverty, humility and love.
